So, fellow Cornelius hopefuls, the Vandy website says that … Mid-February “Finalists notified for Cornelius Vanderbilt Scholarships that require on campus interviews.” Does that mean that some applicants will still be considered for the scholarship without an on campus interview? Thanks!

i’ve been wondering about that too - i hope they do notify us all, even if we aren’t finalists. and i don’t think anyone has heard about it yet… i could be wrong though,

SATs: 2380 (800 Verbal, 800 Writing, 780 Math)–I took them twice and all scores went up the second time, my first scores were 750 V, 800 W, 700 M
ACT: 34
GPA: 4.6 W, 3.9 UW (I got a B in an eighth grade class I took for high school credit)
Class ranking: my school doesn’t rank
I have pretty strong ECs and a good resume (I really focus on one or two things I’m very passionate about, as opposed to being a mile wide and an inch deep)
I also did a research study over the summer related to my future career choice.

My Common App essay wasn’t the best but I wrote a very strong Why Vanderbilt essay that I attached in the “Additional Information” section of the Common App
Also, I wrote an essay detailing my research study and what it meant to me for the Cornelius Vanderbilt Scholarship.

Question–
did any of you apply for merit scholarships at other schools?
I got a half-scholarship from Tulane and might get a full one, I haven’t found out yet.
I’m also hoping for merit $$ from Rice.
I applied to Emory Scholars but didn’t even make Semifinalist =(

Hello everyone, it’s Thom from Vandy Admissions.

I know there’s a lot of questions about Cornelius Vanderbilt award notifications. Wanted to let you know that our blog will have a guest posting from Brent Tener, Associate Director of Student Financial Aid and Director of Scholarships (long title I know) about all things honors scholarship at Vandy. We’ll have it up soon so look for it.

College 316…
I applied for several merit scholarships. I was a semi-finalist for the Morehead-Cain at UNC but that’s as far as I got. However, currently I am a finalist for the Johnson at Washington and Lee, a finalist for the Emory Scholars and a semi-finalist for the Murray at William and Mary. I have not heard from a couple more including Vandy.

SAT: 2310
ACT: 35
SAT II: 800 Math II and Chem, 790 Biology M
Rank: 3/505
Lots of AP classes and 5’s 10 AP exams, lol got a 1 on French though.

One of my neighbors got a scholarship by applying to Cornelius, but not the Cornelius scholarship itself.
Good luck everyone!

This is just an update for everyone so you don’t have to freak out checking your email (if you’re like me)…until March 6

Cornelius Vanderbilt Scholarship applicants to the College of Arts and Science and School of Engineering will be notified of their status via e-mail beginning March 6. Scholarship recipients will also be notified via letter, which will be mailed on or after March 6. The selections for these scholarship awards will be made by their respective committees and on-campus interviews will not be conducted this year.

Finalists for the Cornelius Vanderbilt Scholarship program who have applied to Peabody College will be contacted via e-mail or telephone by February 23 and invited to campus for interviews on March 15 and 16. Students who have applied for the Cornelius Vanderbilt Scholarship program and have not been selected as finalists will be notified via e-mail shortly after February 23.

Rats. I was counting on that interview haha. Since they’re just straight-up selecting a handful of kids out of a gigantic pool, it’ll be really quantitative to a certain degree. Like, they say they don’t have cutoffs, but with that kind of selection process, nobody under a 2300 is going to get it. They’ll see my 2270 and laugh lol.
