GPA - 4.7 weighted
SAT - 2290 [2300 cutoff
]
SAT II - French 800, Biology 770, Math II 710, World History 790
9 AP classes
My counselor said my essay was awesome, so I hope that bodes well.

I don’t think there is a cut off for scores. I think they look at it holistically, like normal admissions decisions.

typically above 1500 (cr+m) and in the top 1% according to brochures

^ LOL! Then I barely made it (1510, val).

damn my competitive public school, top 3%, 1500 cr+m, 4.0 uw
my class had 29 nmf’s

^ Holy eff. That’s insane. I was the only one :D

Has anyone heard that applied to Peabody???

Is the Feb 23 notification for people that did not make Finalist for ALL Cornelius applicants or just those to Peobody?

Feb 23 is for Peabody only. You will be notified by today if you got it- if not, you will be notified in a day or two. We haven’t heard anything so I guess it’s bad news.

anyone know approx how many recipients there are? for the engineering school in particular.

Is it today for Arts & Sciences as well? I must say that Vandy was my son’s top choice - a rep from the school (when they visited here) said that top grades/SAT were the most determining factor and led him to believe that he was a shoo in for the Cornelius Vanderbilt.
He’s 1/500, 1580/2330 SAT(one sitting), NMF, Presidential Scholar nominee, AP scholar with distinction (5 APs so far, all 5s), normal ECs, leadership, showed interest, etc. If he doesn’t get the nod, I honestly don’t know what it takes! Is anyone elses student getting discouraged by this process?

No, 2/23 notification is only for Peabody applicants. CAS and Engineering applicants hear back on March 6.

Is there a specific web site one can go to and see data on security/crime rate at Vanderbilt or any other colleges/universities?

Thank you in advance to whoever answer my question.

pumpkin:

While merit scholarships are mostly about the numbers, they aren’t all about the numbers. A friend’s kid was a #1, 240/2400 (one sitting)/5 x 800’s/5 5’s, Intel finalist, state level musician, published research, written up is USAToday as a promising high schooler, and was accepted into every 8 year med program to which he applied, and Yale (no med program). But, he did not win the full ride at USC nor at Rice.

Sometimes its just other stuff that the college is looking for that year.

Hmm so I’m actually a Cornelius scholarship student at Vanderbilt right now (went through the interviews and everything) and I don’t think there are any hard and fast rules for the scholarship. Definitely even if you don’t get to the interview you can still receive one as when people decline they will offer more scholarships to other qualified applicants even if they didn’t get invited to the interview weekend. (The other student from my school my year (2010) got a 75% tuition scholarship offer afterwards).

As for SAT scores I don’t think there is a 2300 cutoff… my SAT for the 2400 one was 2270/2400 though I did have a previous 1580/1600. Anyways if there are questions about it I can answer what I know… especially cause they make us host the incoming interviewees each year lol

My d applied for Cornnelius Vanderbilt scholarship and is a Peabody applicant. She has not heard anything about this specific scholarship but was invited to a Peabody Honors weekend on March 15 and 16 and could be offered anything from a full tuition scholarship to a lesser amount. When someone coordinating her trip called, I asked if this had anything to do with Cornelius Vanderbilt scholarship and I was told no.

So, here it is March 3 and we have heard nothing about Cornelius Vanderbilt – I thought everyone was notified even if not a finalist.

Have others not heard anything yet?

Congrats to your daughter! Here’s what the blog says:

“Finalists for the Cornelius Vanderbilt Scholarship program who have applied to Peabody College will be contacted via e-mail or telephone by February 23 and invited to campus for interviews on March 15 and 16. Students who have applied for the Cornelius Vanderbilt Scholarship program and have not been selected as finalists will be notified via e-mail shortly after February 23.”

It sounds to me like she is a finalist for the CV scholarship. Maybe you just talked to the wrong person. However, even if it’s not the CV scholarship, if she’s up for a full ride, I wouldn’t care what they called it : )

What if you did not receive any e-mail shortly after February 23? Should you call the school?
