Versii- just trying to lighten up the mood a lil bit.

Anyways, Lania, how do you think they break down those 15 minutes on our applications? 5 minutes on each essays, and then just glance at other stuff for another 5 minutes?

It’s fine ^^. Had my hopes up when I realized I didn’t get a likely letter. We’re still cool. ;D

versi: is there any other ivies you are applying to? or is Cornell is the ONE. ;)

lania10, I understand. But since Cornell is my first choice, it shouldn’t hurt that I applied ED. I admit that my stats aren’t up to CC standards, but I love Cornell and what it has to offer. If they don’t see that in my application, then it would obviously be a huge disappointment for me.

I disagree with your suggestion of withdrawing ED to just go RD, though. I’m certain that the adcom would not look favorably upon it, and it would thus prove detrimental to the applicant’s chances of being admitted. I only hope for a deferral if I’m not statistically “academically qualified” enough for ED then (which is what I feel you may imply).

It’s not my intention to possibly cause any rift with you, so I say that we just agree to disagree?

Lol by the way shuai, that was mean! I checked my inbox and spam folder after you wrote that. Sigh ><

lmao, I checked my spam to see if I’d missed an email for an interview when he said that… even though they’re unrelated lol

Is December 12th really the day? I’d heard the 15th o_O

Lol. I’m guessing it is, since Penn’s D-Day is the 12th for ED. Don’t the Ivies usually make an agreement to release their decisions on a certain date? I may be wrong about the agreement, idk…

I know Brown and Duke are the 15th o_O so I doubt there’s an agreement…

I think someone mentioned it earlier, but I wish they’d send out acceptances on a rolling basis the way they do for transfers.

Ah, so there we go! I say we ask Uncle Ezra.

I’m just wondering, is it really that bad if you withdraw from ED in favor of RD?

lol Why would you do that? I mean, if you even have a shot at RD, worst that could happen with applying ED is that you’ll be differed till RD… and if you really don’t belong at Cornell, they’ll flat our reject you, which suggest that even if you’d applied RD you wouldn’t have gotten in…

So, yea, it’s probably bad to withdraw from ED…

can we tell the no. of applicants frm our applicant id? eg ig mines app10-lw484 does that mean im no. 484?

ilovefhf…I believe those numbers represent the last three digits of your highschool code.

shuia - the admission counselor said what they really focus on is the essay, a resume if you submitted one (btw he recommended everyone who used the common app to submit a resume) and anything else submitted that can give them a better idea of who you are aside from test scores because in reality everyone applying hopefully is smart and has outstanding test scores so they can’t go by that alone for acceptance. He also pointed out that is why there aren’t really merit scholarships offered at Cornell because everyone is smart. Btw, he also said if you are admitted and your household income is less than $75,000 they will guarantee a financial package with no loans. Their focus is not let people graduate with a huge debt hanging over their heads.

hm, I submitted a resume, however, about two weeks ago I was told by some people that my resume was too long… it was approximately 5-6 pages? A couple of friends told me they wouldn’t read it if it wasn’t between 1-2? Is this true?

does anybody know what time (EST) on the 12th of dec the emails will be sent to us? i’m in hong kong so i’m 12 hours ahead! just want to anticipate the email.

@wisdom

i agree with your friends. in fact, i was told by my counselor to keep the resume to one page. even if that means all my activities won’t fit, i am supposed to nitpick what i think is relevant to what i want to study or what i think reflects my character.

I wish I’d known that before Nov 1st =

The main reason it was so long is that I added explanations to all of my community service/volunteer activities and extracurricular activities.

For instance, I’ve been a member of Drama Club at my school for 4 years, Vice President for 3, and Stage Manager for 2… this almost seems entirely unrelated to my major of choice, physics, so I explained that though the performance aspects of Drama were fun, it was really operating the light booth and rewiring sound equipment, adjusting fly weights, programming light sequences, etc. that I loved and allotted the majority of my time to while in the club.

I hope they don’t just toss it aside =

Generally, they have enough items to work with. Not submitting a resume with not affect you at all, a crappy resume or a long one will definitely hurt a bit. More papers for them = closer you are out.
