Cornell 2015 Fall Transfer Thread

Happy with UMich as well since it’s engineering is on par with Cornell’s and I was lucky to get a good dorm (North Quad)

I’ve only heard back from Michigan and Vanderbilt so far. I prefer Ann Arbor to Nashville though (I’m from the south, never been to the midwest and I’m curious) and I like UMich better in terms of what it has to offer resource-wise in physics/math.

I’m curious to hear back from Cornell, JHU, and UPenn. I also applied to Rice and Duke, but realized I want to get away from the south. I applied to Caltech, but with a 2% transfer rate and no research done by the time I sent in my app, I’m assuming I’m surely gonna be rejected.

I think what’s gonna make it or break it for me if I get into Cornell, JHU, or UPenn is the finaid. As an OOS transfer I got a really good deal at UMIch (tuition is free, I only have to pay ~10k/yr for housing + living expenses). If the cost difference for these other schools is too significant, then it’s a no-go. I can’t pass up being debt-free.

U-M is one of the best public schools, so I’m pretty satisfied with it (esp with the finaid). I really wish I applied to Berkeley though. I somehow missed their deadline, lol

Looking back on the whole transfer app process, I really wish more of the 12 schools I applied to were elite-level schools (UChicago, Columbia, MIT, etc.) rather than “backup/match.” I really had to make sure I wasn’t staying at my current uni though. I also couldn’t guarantee my acceptance to UMich for physics/math.

Man. I did 10 and I thought I did a lot. My backup is UW-Madison (accepted a little over a month ago). Fingers crossed though for an Ivy or Johns Hopkins or Carnegie Mellon

10-12 is a lot.I had a list of 20 or something schools, which was insane, but time constraints helped me narrow it down in the end.

I really had to get out of my uni, though! It has no physics major.

@Collegeyadayada You can search for common date set on Cornell’s official website.

@jtranxferman I also apply to Johns Hopkins. What are your intended majors?

@eye777 Man, I could not find 20 or something schools to want, that’s incredible haha. I guess it’s because UW-Madison is a great school and it’d be hard for me to find 19 schools that I would want more than it. I totally feel you on the needing to get out of current uni. I’m so tired of my uni and so ready to be free lol

@moooon I applied for Biochemistry (I think?). Johns Hopkins and Madison were the only schools I applied to for biochemistry because they have such great programs for it. All my other schools I applied for computer science (although I might’ve actually applied to Johns Hopkins for computer science after all… I don’t remember lol)

@jtranxferman In all honesty, when I started I had a list of 30 or something great schools, I think Madison included. My current uni is ranked #550 or something in the US, so it wasn’t very hard to have a large list of unis I would enjoy attending more.

@eyo777 Wow, may I ask what uni, if it’s not too personal? I’m currently attending Arizona State so it’s a slightly similar situation (ranked 129).

@jtranxferman It’s a local commuter school in my area. It’s also relatively new, which is probably why it doesn’t have a physics major yet. Many people come here to do biology or pursue pre-professional programs like dentistry and pharmacy in the local area.
I don’t want to post the name here, but if you’re curious and want to look it up, on US News it’s unranked, but on the Forbes list its currently #567.

Anybody with work-related alternatives? My company sent me off to community college saying they’ll increase my pay once I earn my certificate. My course progression must’ve put me on ILR’s radar, because they sent me information in January and I fell in love. I did apply to seven other schools, but it all comes down to financial aid and acceptances!

At least, I got my VISA yesterday and I’ll be working at the summer camp in the USA  That is something to me. It will be a great adventure

I got the acceptance call from ILR on Tuesday!! Still in total disbelief!! Good luck to everyone else still waiting!

Been following this thread since the beginning. Made an account just now to help future years.

Received an email at 10:45 today, and was rejected. Was applying to CALS AEM as a junior transfer from a CC in NJ.

Good luck to everyone who didn’t hear today.

@eve1204 Thx for keeping up with the list.

For anyone that has emailed with Ian, is his correct email address schachner@cornell.edu or ims25@cornell.edu? Thanks!

Thank you for your dedication! @eve1204 I requested a major change and was permitted yesterday. I changed my intended major to city and regional studies. It is within the college of architecture, art and planning.

@jtranxferman Haha~I applied to Johns Hopkins and Emory for International relations and creative writing. The rest schools I applied were all for architecture. Same reason lol.
