@heli824 That’s the interesting thing about it! Her extracurriculars weren’t spectacular. She also might be lurking on this thread… But she’s in our school’s biotech club. I think she has 4.0, so that might have been her main appeal. She’s international from Korea, so she was surprised since they tend not to accept too many according to the stats she found.
@Collegeyadayada Mind sharing the source for the 66 community college student bit? On their 2011 college transfer stat it had the break downs for all the colleges. It seemed as though CALS accepted about 50% of the applicants. I’m not sure what to make of that.
@AGrizzlyBear Interesting, thanks for the info. I also have a 4.0 but also a bunch of ECs related to plant science. I wonder why my application is taking so long, I submitted my app early just so this wouldn’t happen haha.
Btw has anyone had their transeval updated?
Hey guys, have been following this thread for awhile now and figured it was time to jump in the discussion
Stats: unconventional student, military veteran , attend a private university 3.4 GPA, great letters of recommendation, great essay, ROTC. I know my numbers clearly don’t compare to the quality of individuals here but I’m hoping the unconventional student helps.
Looking to transfer into ILR as a junior. Currently have taken 180 credits but have a scholarship that forces me to stay in undergrad for 2 more years.
As far as I’m concerned, everyone who hasn’t received a rejection still has great promise of ring accepted. We’ve survived the first round of cuts which is important and even if we do all end up getting rejected we at least had the courage to dream big with Cornell and go for it. Good luck everyone!!
At the suggestion of a staff researcher who worked at Cornell (no affiliation with admissions), I called about my app. I I don’t get into Cornell I’m going to a SUNY school. Their deadlines for accepting admission offers are may 1st. When I called to see whether it’d be done then or not, the lady at CALS gave me a maybe. But then she offered to write on my application to have the decision ready by May 1st. So, maybe you can try that. Hopefully she followed through on that one.
@ducks8 I’ve been told that Cornell likes the unconventional. I’ve heard some guy applied pre-vet to CALS with a gpa not much higher than 3.0, but he had an underwater excavation business, and Cornell thought that was awesome. Of course, I have no source for that other than what a friend told me she learned on her visit to the school. My school has a transfer agreement with CALS, and they consider any student with a gpa over 3.0 (3.5 for the more selective majors). So I don’t think they put too much weight on gpa.
@ducks8 ILR sent only positive decisions, so there hasn’t been any round of cuts yet.
I know that but I mean for everyone else. I mean to survive the first cut for CALS is huge.
@AGrizzlyBear @justTryIt I will dig and try and find out where I read that when I get home from the gym later. I can’t remember if it was 66 CC students total for transfer or just CALS. But I do remember reading it is at least 66 total, and that was from an official Cornell document!
@Collegeyadayada Found this, but it’s from 2011.
http://dpb.cornell.edu/documents/1000457.pdf#zoom=100
@justTryIt This looks familiar, but I believe it was something I actually found on cornells website (for recent years, maybe an updated version of that forum?). I could always be mistaken though!
Accepted into ILR as a junior transfer on 4/25. Quite stoked!
Waiting to hear back from UVa McIntire before I decide. Instate vs. ~50k debt at Cornell, but honestly I’m leaning towards the latter. ILR is a great interdisciplinary curriculum with versatile vocational possibilities. Add that to the value of an Ivy degree and uni network and it’s all around solid.
Edit: If you don’t get in, please don’t be discouraged. I wouldn’t dream of being in this position 2 years ago after getting rejected from numerous lower ranked schools. Keep your head up and work hard and you can achieve greatness. Academics are just one small facet of a vibrant life.
@mcintirehopeful Did Ian call you or you get an email?
He emailed me on 4/21 to request a chat over the phone. We talked today and that’s when I learned of the acceptance.
@mcintirehopeful can you post your stats if you don’t mind?
I wanted to know, has anyone here been accepted into cornell without an ACT or SAT. I have a good college gpa
4.0) and my high school gpa was also great as well with good essays and recommendation. The only things that I am worried about is that I do not not have an SAT or ACT.
I have been wondering/worrying about that too. I regret not sending in my SATs to cornell because my score turned out to be really strong and it might have helped me.
Did you already have your decision yet?
