@Heli824 congrats! when did you submit all of your materials to admissions?
When will the next batch of decisions be made?
Got a call from Ian this morning, I got accepted to ILR! Good luck guys, theres still hope for ya!
for practical reasons I had to check earlier than I wanted to. rejected
Accepted! Don’t know if I’ll go or not, still waiting on other schools
Rejected. well that feels shitty.
Hey all, I got accepted to animal science! I guess I’ll go ahead and put some stats and stuff. My overall gpa is like 3.69. That’s with 6 semesters, and two C’s in chem. My high school gpa was a 3.0, and I didn’t submit SAT scores. I was an RA last year, I’m secretary of my student senate, co-pres of the school environmental club, and I’ve done a couple internships with some research. My main interest is working with primates, and my relevant experience is minimal, outside of some awful zoo internship. I’m also a NY resident.
For anyone reading this thread next application cycle, I followed some advice on some a forum I found from like 2000, where an ex admissions officer wrote some advice to applicants. I can’t find it now, but I’ll keep looking because it was really useful. Anyway, they mainly said to show that you fit in with Cornell. They want to see that this is the best place for you. All of the applicants are competitive, so being a good student isn’t your biggest advantage.
My path doesn’t fit with the typical animal science student, so I wrote about how the animal science’s broad graduation requirements allowed me the freedom to take advantage of the world class education and research yadda yadda. I name dropped a couple professor I spoke to on the campus. And finally, I found a non-paid summer internship with a Cornell research station. If anything, I think putting those elements into the essay is what really got me in.
Hey, I also received a call from Ian yesterday. I emailed him asking when decisions are going to be released and he asked for my number. He called me not long after that but we just talked. He asked me questions on why I want to major in ILR and my interests etc. He told me that they are wrapping things up as decisions are going to be released by this week. Does this mean that I am not accepted? He did not tell me anything about my admission status. @cawledgeobsessed
@jms8116 From what I’ve seen others say, I think that Ian calling you is more of a good sign. I think others have said that he has called you to make sure that you are truly a good fit for the program. I’m not sure, but I think that’s what others have said. Good luck!
My situation is pretty similar to Grizzly Bear’s. I was accepted to Plant Sciences. I attended a specialized highschool but did poorly due to lack of any effort/ putting my time into extracurricular stuff. My GPA was literally below a 2.0, so if you don’t think you have a chance at Cornell then I would rethink your chances I did manage a 4 on the Biology AP.
I am currently a freshman at a contract community college. I honestly was surprised they accepted me considering I only had one semester of grades (4.0) and a midterm to report (3.96). I think I got in because of my extracurricular activities and essays.
ECs:
-Apprenticeship at the Brooklyn Botanical Garden
- Worked at a garden and landscaping company for two years
-volunteered for the Carolina carnvirous plant society: population surveys of sarracenia and dionea in the Wilmington County area
-legal rescue of dionea from a construction site - i have helped a friend start a nursery that specializes in tropical pitcher plants, the nursery now has connections with some Cornell professors, students, and the hortus forum club.
-I personally grow several hundred species of carnivorous plants and linked my Flickr account with some photos of my plants.
My essays were pretty focused on what I wanted to do, which was research the mountainous interior of New Guinea for new species of plant life. I also compared myself to one of the Cornell plant science alumni who discovered a new species of Dracula orchid.
It sounds like today was a 50/50 day.
@cawledgeobsessed Congratulations!
@jmeltz94 Have you heard from ILR at all? I just sent an email to Ian so hopefully I hear from them soon. Can’t take this wait any longer!
Are decisions coming out alphabetically per each college?
@winniex17 I have not heard anything back from ILR!
@winniex17 thanks!
@jms8116 i think thats a really good sign, he called me a few weeks ago to do the same thing, so good luck!
But I don’t think I did that good in the interview (if it was even considered one) and the call was only for 15 minutes. What if because of the phone call he decides that I’m not fit enough in the college? Is it likely that they change their decision in these few days considering they are releasing the decision very soon? How long was your call? @cawledgeobsessed thanks for your prompt reply btw. and congrats!
Can somebody please update the list?
