What is the Cornell Card and what is it used for? Do you feel that it’s necessary?

Cornell Card is kind of like a credit card…I believe the limit is $650 and the purchase is charged directly to your bursar account. I think it has a yearly fee of $10 once activated.

I think it’s nice to have…definitely convenient.

do you use it to print stuff at the library or to buy books? Do you get a discount rather than paying cash or using a credit card?

You can use to buy items at the bookstore, dining halls, Cornell event tickets, etc.

You don’t get a discount though. I never liked to carry my wallet on campus, so it was nice if I was at the bookstore and wanted to purchase something.

Can my parents put money into my Cornell card from my native country? If so, I regret buying international VISA card.

Does it offer any advantages over a regular credit card?

You’d pay way more interest on a late credit card than you do on the Cornell card/late bursar bill.

Tsenguun, you don’t put money into the card. There is an 850 dollar limit. The charges on your card are added to your monthly bursar bill.

blazinyan300, you can sign up for netprint to pay for printing at the library. These charges also appear on your monthly bursar bill.

Cornell Card is rather useful if you’re buying some of your books at the Cornell store. It will bill your parents, and is much less of a hassle than writing a personal check. I have also used it to buy the little things that I’ve occasionally needed, like stationery, notebooks, toothpaste, etc. Like dewdrop, I don’t like carrying my wallet around campus, so having a Cornell Card is convenient. Everyday items at the Cornell store and at the various convenience stores are, however, over priced, and could be avoided if you have time to go to the mall.

ahhh…they raised the Cornell Card limit…good to know

I wish my parents paid my bursar bill :-)

Does Cornell accept regular credit cards in the bookstore and cafeterias?

Cash, Credit Cards, Debit Cards are accepted at those locations. I’m not sure checks are accepted though.

Yeah…I think I’d rather just use my credit card. I’d at least get points/build my credit score when I use it.

You can still activate your Cornell Card for those “just in case” moments…I think I might have used it a grand total of 5 times…but I was still glad I had it.

can u use it to buy stuff off campus? just like a regular credit card?

CornellCard only works on-campus.

a cornell card can only be used on on campus locations and some places in collegetown (like collegetown bagels). you wouldnt be able to use it at wegmans or target, for example, because it isnt an ACTUAL credit card.

so there’s literally no point to it (besides that its kinda cool to have)

Most banks offer fee-free accounts to college students up to age 25, with no interest and no payments, literally no hassles besides keeping your account positive in funds. And since you can use credit/debit anywhere on campus for anything, its really not worth it to have a Cornell card.

Or am i missing something?

Yeah. Your purchases get bursared so you don’t have to worry about having a positive bank account (or interest applied) at the time of purchase.

and then your nice parents can pay your bursar bill. hahahahaha
