Cornell chances so far?

Hi everyone. So ever since my mom took me to Cornell I’ve pretty much been obsessed with it. I always thought it was a reach but sometimes I feel a little more optimistic:) What do you think of my chances so far?

-American, white male at a public school in the midwest

-I am taking the hardest classes my school offers right now (I am a junior).

-I am taking the ACT in October and so far I’ve been getting a 31 on the practice tests.

-My grades freshman year are not as stellar, but they improve to almost all A’s my sophomore year.

-My mother graduated from Cornell in 1983.

-I have some good extracurriculars (at least I think): editor-in-chief of our award winning school newspaper (scholastic press school publication award 1st place), editor-in-chief of our school’s literary magazine (also won a 1st place national award), cross country for two years, investment club, spanish club, ski club, national honor society, marching band and concert band

-I am expecting some very good letters of recommendation

-I worked at a law office this summer

Thanks to anyone that gives me some feedback!

Ski club isn’t an EC lol. Besides that, if you continue with your ECs for the rest of high school and show consistency I think you have great chances for the ACT. And don’t worry about this October’s ACT. I mean, study up and everything but Cornell superscores so you have plenty of time to take it again! Best of luck =)

Why is ski club not an EC? It shows that he is passionate about skiing. I’d say you are a competitive applicant, assuming you get a 31 (or higher) and you continue with good grades, your ECs and challenging classes.

“passionate about skiing”

Yeah, it’s fun but it’s not really an EC. His editor-in-chief position carries much more weight than “just mastered the bunny slope!”

thanks for the feedback! I’ll think about putting ski club on there  . Oh yeah, btw, my class rank isn’t too great. How much does Cornell care about something like class rank?

According to CollegeBoard, Cornell has listed Class Rank as “Important” and not “Very Important”
