@ArthurDent42 no, ED has to reply and deposit any day now. I think mid January.
@TiggyB62 I guess I’ll get an email telling me about said deadline? Why isn’t the date on the website?
This is what’s on Cornell’s website:
Your acceptance letter should have the date and most ED applicants should get their FA information in Jan.
@ArthurDent42 yes, you should have received notice of the deposit/enroll date in your acceptance letter with instructions on how to make your $400 deposit. I did this last year a few days after my D was accepted. You will then get the $400 credited to your account when the Fall tuition bill is due at the beginning of August. You may have missed it. It’s also on the website.
This is the email my daughter got last year after we submitted the deposit:
Dear X:
Greetings from Cornell University! This message is to confirm our receipt of your Enrollment Response Form.
In early April you will receive information about your Cornell University email address, housing and dining options, and an invitation to Cornell Days, our annual student-run program for admitted students. Your personalized To Do List will also be available in April at http://newstudents.cornell.edu. Newstudents.cornell.edu highlights key information, lets you complete and check the status of forms, and track university requirements to ensure your smooth transition to Cornell. Until then, please visit the Application Status site to ensure your email and mailing addresses are up-to-date.
We also remind you that your admission to Cornell during Early Decision is binding. As part of the agreement, you must withdraw any applications you have filed at other colleges or universitites.
If you have questions regarding your deposit, please contact our admissions staff. Best wishes for continued success in your senior year.
Sincerely,
Cornell University Undergraduate Admissions
@ArthurDent42: Try going here. This is from their website.
To submit your enrollment form and deposit:
Return to your online decision letter at: https://decision.applyyourself.com/?id=cornellu.
On the Cornell screen, input your assigned PIN and the password you created to view your admissions decision. Click on the “Login” button to view your electronic decision letter.
Navigate to the note at the bottom of the letter and click the “Enrollment Form” link in the final sentence. This will take you to the Enrollment Response Form.
Review the information on the Enrollment Response Form and select the “Proceed to Submission” button at the bottom.
This will take you to the Enrollment Fee Payment screen where you will select a payment method and continue to the Navient payment screens. (Note that these two screens will partially auto-fill with student information and will require that you enter the name of the credit card or e-check account owner.)
It is essential that you then select the “Finish” button at the bottom to proceed to the “Final Step – Signature Page” where you will need to enter the student’s full name and the date of payment.
Select the “Submit Enrollment” button at the bottom of this page.
The deposit will be credited to your bursar account in your first semester at Cornell.
@ArthurDent42 i’m pretty sure it’s january 22nd. i’ve read the date quite a few times here and there, though i can’t give you a clear source now (although actually now that i think about it, it may have been directly in the notification site that told us about our acceptance). i would stay safe and try to make a decision by the end of the week.
Found it, an actual webpage telling me the true date that I have to respond by:
"Congratulations and welcome to the Cornell University community. Your next step is to complete and submit the following Enrollment Response Form. Please carefully read the instructions and remember to always select from the options at the bottom of each page. The enrollment deposit of $400 is nonrefundable. Once you have made payment through HigherOne, you will need to return to the Cornell site via the ‘Finish’ button on the bottom of the payment confirmation page.
IMPORTANT NOTE REGARDING ONLINE DEPOSITS: Enrolling students who wish to use a 529 College Tuition Plan or are unable to submit the enrollment deposit online must contact undergradapp@cornell.edu for assistance.
The enrollment deposit is due January 22, 2016 and is nonrefundable." <<<<
But…
On my To Do List, it says for the Alcohol-Wise thing:
"All new students must complete Alcohol-Wise, an online, interactive alcohol education course. Even if you are among the many Cornellians who do not drink alcohol, the information provided in the program will be valuable.
Login to the To Do List with your NetID to access your link to Alcohol-Wise. The deadline for completion is January 18."
Are NetID’s for enrolled students only? How can I do the Alcohol-Wise thing on time if I don’t have to enroll until January 22nd?
@ArthurDent42 it seems like the To Do List is only available for First Year students enrolling in the Spring of 2016. When you click on First Year Fall 2016, there is no To Do List showing.
@SquadGoals , did you get deferred from SHA? Good luck man!
@ArthurDent42 just be patient. All the stuff you see for first year students are for transfers for spring '16. Orientation for those students is actually this week. All first year freshmen who were accepted ED need to wait until RD decisions come out, and then the emails and such from Cornell will start coming quickly with your “to do” list etc. This will contain info on net IDs, course registration, swim test sign up, dorm/meal plan, ID, gym membership, health insurance, alcohol wise, managing your bursar account, move in day instructions, etc. Each one of these items will have a completion deadline. From our experience last year, it is a very helpful website and helps you keep track of what you still need to do before moving in in August.
One tip: as soon as the sign-up for the swim test becomes available (usually July) on your “to do” list, sign up right away, because time slots fill up very fast. If you can’t get a time during orientation weekend, then they also make slots available once classes start, but it’s more of a pain to work this into your schedule. Also, orientation weekend is the only time the swim tests are separated between male/female. Meaning, girls at one pool, boys at another pool. After that, they are co-ed. No big deal, just an FYI.
Guys,
Whats the process of accepting your Fin aid
And what should we do with the financial aid application certification?
If you are offered a federal subsidized or unsubsidized loan, (max $5,500 for first year students) and you want to accept it, then you need to fill out the Master Promissory Note (MPN) on studentloans.gov. as well as completing the entrance counseling (it takes about 30 minutes). You will also need an FSA ID, which you will be able to create on the aforementioned site. You do not have to do this until the summer, though. If, however, you do not want to take the federal loan, then you need to email the FA office at Cornell and tell them that you are do not wish to accept the it and they will recalculate your total amount due.
Any grant money from Cornell is automatically applied to your account. You do not need to “accept” this.
Hey guys,
I am just wondering how to submit my final semester one marks. I have finished my first semester and now have final marks to report. Do I just need to get my counsellor to upload them to the common app, or is there something else I have to do?
Thanks!
@cornellian7 Just ask your GC to upload your mid year report on the common app.
Wow, it’s been almost three months since I last visited this forum. I never had the guts to say that I was rejected from ED Cornell. I must admit I never saw that rejection letter coming, even though I knew any top-tier school like Cornell is a crap shoot when it comes to admission. As bizarre as it may sound, I am happy Cornell rejected me. Admission officers knew what they were doing when they saw my application. I simply was not destined to end up in the city of Ithaca.
Originally, the plan was to study business (finance). Somehow, in the mist of searching for the right college, Cornell showed up. I fell in love with Cornell (and still am) and decided to ED. I had no idea what ILR was but I just went for it. My parents were not happy about it as you may imagine. After I was rejected, everything fell to pieces. Fortunately, with the help of friends and family, I was able to stand back up and had enough strength to successfully submit my ED2 and RD applications. During winter break, I visited the schools I applied to, and fell in love with NYU.
Now, I will be going to NYU Stern, where I will be able to receive the best finance oriented education my parents and I were initially seeking. I can’t express how relieved and content I am with this decision. My family and I are all happy, and in the end, that is what matters the most. I just felt I had to post this here because I did make a lot of friends in this thread. I still love Cornell and still have an emotional attachment to the university, but it was not my place to be. Congratulations to those who were accepted, make the most out of it, and please enjoy Cornell for me.
To those rejected, I promise you will be smiling on April 1st after seeing your acceptance letter(s). Wherever life may take you, be grateful because that is where life wanted you to be. Best of luck in all of your endeavors class of 2020.
guess who’s back >:D
