Hey guys! A few other schools have started threads like this so why not haha! You can never be to prepared right?!
Thank you for this thread! Is it possible to submit my ED application, and send scores that are still in progress after my application has been submitted?
act: october is the last test
sat: november is the last test
11/1 is when the application is due so you need to send the score directly to cornell to get it considered.
Lmao this early but ayyy, I’m going up to Cornell soon to meet with some professors. They really like my ideas! I may even do Summer College there. A student offered to give me a free tour when I go. Can’t wait. Hopefully a prof can write a rec lol
Does anyone know if Cornell still gives need based aid for students in contract schools like human ecology
I’m also probably going to ED to cornell
@Gatortristan Yes, Cornell provides need based aid for all their students that qualify. The only difference from a financial standpoint in the contract colleges is that instate residents pay a reduced price for tuition- much like if you attended a state school vs out of state.
This website: http://finaid.cornell.edu/cost-attend breaks down all the costs of attendance, comparing the contract colleges to the endowed ones.
GL to all who are applying!
Just tips for those applying to CALS so you don’t make the same mistake. (i got rejected but i’m reapplying as a transfer). Just take real consideration when you’re applying to this school and REALLY look over it.
Really understand that you need to connect with the major, doing ECS and making yourself stand out. It won’t be convincing if you don’t have for example, experience with animal science or biometry and statistics. People think that although the average sat is lower, it’s easier. It’s harder in a sense that you need to “fit more”. And an essay no matter how good it is will smell like BS if you don’t have the ECS to prove it. I have friends rejected with 1470+/1600 sats from CALS because what they did didn’t stand out, so you really need to emphasize this fit through your ecs or coursework, not just your essay (such as talking about how I’ve always loved doing blah) without actually showing your passion. The major you choose in CALS should fit you, you shouldn’t change how you feel so that it corresponds with the major.
For me, I chose a major (biometry and statistics) from CALS I had nothing to show for. MY ecs had fit more for a CAS student rather than a CALS. It wasn’t specialized and although I had some experience with computer, I had nothing to fill that biological aspect. And i barely knew much about biometry and statistics. I wanted to do something managament related along with computer science and biology so I applied trying to change myself to fit biometry and statics. Had I known about information science would I have applied for it but that’s a different story.
And generally, don’t just put all your eggs in one basket. Apply to other schools early too and realize that you don’t have to love only cornell. You can love schools like syracuse or northeastern or your state school even if you’re applying ED. Last year, i was so stubborn about cornell, (even though my stats were weak oops lol) and didn’t really care about my other schools. oops.
So overall, GL to all of your who rae applying. decision date was horrible. if you get rejected, u’ll find really empty on the inside for like a few hours but then you’ll get over it., Had I would be able to do this all over, I think I’d apply to CAS or CALS informatoin science or maybe not apply at all but just apply as a transfer.
Also PS.
The reason why I’m applying as a transfer student has to do with the fact that I got GTed anywhere and since i’m sending in all the stuff I need for GT, why not just reapply again to cornell and work to show for it again? then again im not in college so I have no idea how i’m going to feel about the school i’m going to for 1 year. woh knows if i’ll love it.
@llegeAcceptanc thanks so much for the insight
Has anyone here started their common app and?or supplement yet? workin on mine lol
I started filling out general info but not the essays yet. I still need to take the act in june and subject tests
The common app opens on 8/1/15 for next year’s class. How can you be filling out info now?
Hey guys, starting at Cornell college of engineering this year, If you have any questions feel free to ask. Good luck to you all.
@TiggyB62 The common app is open to fill out general information test scores etc and the common app essays are already out on their website. Only thing that isn’t out is the Cornell supplement
What colleges/ majors are you guys applying to? I’m think Environmental at CALS and/or PAM at CHE
HBHS or Human Development at CHE 100%
Might do CHE ED, still unsure
HUMAN ECOLOGY TAKEOVER!!! Haha tired of all those cas kids …jk lol
Filling out the common app now will not be beneficial to you unless you are saving your responses somewhere else (ie. a word document or the like). When the 15-16 Common App comes out August 1, all previous applications are deleted. This is the way it has been in the past, so unless something has been explicitly changed, I wouldn’t expect anything different.
It is good to be thinking ahead, but don’t think you have a head start and come time to submit realize your application no longer exists because you filled out the previous year’s.
Oh… thanks for letting me know before I started @weaver59 !
Thank you, @weaver59. This is what I said in an earlier post (#10) about the common app not opening up until August 1st for the 15-16 application cycle. Glad I wasn’t losing my mind…
