I’d like to remind everyone that it is impossible to divine an admission decision on the Cornell financial aid portal. Last year, there were admitted students that did not get their financial aid packages until weeks after Ivy Day. This year, it may be longer.

If you’re looking for a way to pass the time, check out this article on the current housing situation at Cornell. It’s a mess.

Oh ok I thought we were talking about withdrawl

So is your portal different?

That has to be a good sign

“withdraw” link is gone. No change on the dropdown menu.

I think everyone has this on the portal.

Yes, curious if " waitlist…" was always there?

yes

Thank you so much for this link … it is critical information for those of us that may need to make a decision on Cornell soon. I had heard that housing availability was a concern, but this highlights that it is a little more than that. I would like to know their housing plan for the near future.

You’re welcome. Sometimes people put these elite schools on a pedestal and think getting in there will lead to some magical Shangri-La where everything is perfect. Cornell is a fantastic school, but like every other school in the world, it’s not perfect.

After reading through this and getting a little more familiar with the residence halls and other housing available to incoming (read: hopeful) freshman, it appears that there are some residence halls that are freshman only, and that the problems referred to in the article really start to be an issue sophomore year … especially now that they have instituted the new rules for upperclassman housing. Is that your take?

Yes, that’s correct. All of the freshman are housed on North Campus. Sophomores, junior and seniors are spread out between North, West, and South. The change in housing selection has caused some sophomores to be waitlisted. I’m sure it will get ironed out eventually. I’m happy that my current freshman got an early time slot and is very happy with their housing for next year. Some of their friends were not so lucky.

Even with the housing snafu, Cornell has been a great fit for my kid. Beautiful campus and the dining halls are very good. I’d still highly recommend it!
