Cornell Common App Question-Future Plans Wrong Major

So I was very foolish and just realized that I put a different major(Mathematics) for the Future Plans section than the one I want to pursue at Cornell( Electrical Engineering). I was applying to schools like Amherst and UChicago that don’t have engineering programs, and just put math instead-and repeated it for all the colleges.

Will this affect my chance of getting into Cornell?

It might if you applied to the College of Engineering at Cornell, since Engineering doesn’t offer a Mathematics major. (The Math major is through Arts & Sciences.)

It sounds like this is on the main common portion of your application though, so I imagine it will have less of an impact there than if it was in your Cornell engineering essay. Did you show in your essay a clear indication of your plans and why you felt Cornell is a good fit for you? (That would hopefully more than compensate for any confusion from the one word response in the future plans section…)
