Cornell Early Decision for Fall 2025 Admission

No. The acceptance letter is in the portal. Depending on which college your child has been admitted to, they may may get a postcard from a current student welcoming them, some stickers and/or a short letter from someone at the college.

Curious if any other students admitted ED to Cornell for Fall 2025 (specifically to CAS in our case) received an email today/recently requesting midyear grades (ā€œIt is also important to keep your grades up! Please ask your school counselor to send us your midyear grades when available, and know that Cornell will follow up to request your final grades in the summer.ā€)

It was my impression that ED admits were not required to provide midyear grades (see Are first quarter grades required for early decision applicants to Cornell University? - Frequently Asked Questions)

Thanks!

No email here (CALS). D25 said she would try to check her portal tomorrow to see if she had any messages.

Just seeing this. D25 said she received an official letter, a small sticker and a handwritten note from someone in the department.

This is what my midwest CALS daughter received, no request for mid-year grades. Not going to lie, getting the acceptance in the midst of exams was not helpful and I am a little nervous to see the grades this week :woman_facepalming:

Any other deferred kids sending in letters of continued interest, recs, etc.?

Midterms are not required for ED admission. My guess is they want to make sure students’ grades didn’t dip already since they could rescind in June when final grades are out and it’s too late for a student to have a backup option.

That doesn’t sound right to me. It’s too late to have a backup option NOW - i.e., as soon as the student withdrew all of their applications to their other prospective schools, which is required per the ED agreement.

My daughter received the same email. She’s admitted ED to CAS.

That’s a bit of a relief to hear (even though it still seems contrary to what the Cornell admissions site states about midyear grades for ED applicants).

I actually think they are saying 2 different things. They do not request 1st quarter grades when evaluating ED candidates. That is different from requesting mid-year and final grades from accepted students to ensure they don’t slip too much. All schools will require year end grades for this purpose, but mid year for ED acceptances seems less common.

I was going to say this as well. The linked FAQ is referring to midyear grades for applying ED, since it says it won’t appear on your application checklist. But I’m assuming the email means mid year grades post ED acceptance. I’ll ask my son if he got one from CAS as well.

ETA: He got the same email. It said let them know if you change any classes and send us your mid-year grades. They will be in touch with the school to get end of year grades too.

Cornell asked for my sons 1st Q grades before he was accepted ED in 2023. They asked his guidance counselor to send them & we never even knew at the time. They also got mid-year and final grades.
