Cornell Economics

I’ve got a quick question about the Cornell two-faculty structure at the Department of Economics. What exactly are the advantages of having this system? I suppose you get exposed to more faculty, but what exactly is the purpose?

The purpose is primarily for graduate students, so that they can utilize economists across other departments in the University – AME, PAM, LE, Johnson, etc – as their advisers.

Additionally, many undergraduate courses taught by professors in these other departments will be cross-listed in the department. Cornell has some of the most eminent labor, health, and resource economists in the world, but they aren’t being paid by the economics department.
