My son applied in ED. Wondering what are his chances to get in.

ACT: 34; SAT-: 800’s math, 720 in chem
GPA: 4.0 on the scale of 4
no ranking system in his high school
Leadership roles in stem clubs;
International Honorable Mention in Toshiba Explore Vision Science Fair and won other Regional science fairs
Patent pending
Around full 2 yrs of Research exp with a college prof
4 publications , presented in international conference in Spain
Received a grant from university for summer research program at the Computer Systems Research Laboratory
Co founder of OBD Analytics Co. and entered in start up competitions and won as semifinalist or finalists

The school has a less than 10% chance of admissions, so it’s going to be lousy no matter how great your stats are. There’s no magic bullet to increase your odds of getting in. If there was, everyone else would be doing it too.
His chances are not “lousy.“ Cornell accepted 22.7% of all applicants via ED last year. If he decided to apply via RD, then his chances would be very slim. His son is well qualified and, while the odds are not great, he has effectively more than doubled his chances by deciding to apply ED. Good luck!
If you’re looking at studying CS, any solid accredited bachelors degree will do. The degree only gives enough knowledge to get an entry level job. The real education happens on the job. After about 3 years of experience, employers don’t even ask about education.
Honestly, when it comes to these things, there’s really no way to know especially since we’re not admissions officers, but I would just say to go for it and hope for the best. Your son won’t really know for sure until he just does it.
