Cornell Fall 2018 Transfer Thread

@mattmckenney7 Can you actually PM me? It’s my first time using College Confidential and I don’t know how to PM someone.

Long time lurker here, gonna try to give back to y’all–this forum’s been super helpful this past year, so thanks

Accepted - Mechanical Engineering
Previous College: Purdue University - Physics Honors

High School:
GPA - 3.4 unweighted; 3.6 weighted
ACT: 33
Most Prominent Extracurriculars: Interned at NASA, worked at a non-profit crowdfunding campaign, interned at Naturebridge

College:
GPA: 3.7–B in Chem and E&M Honors
Founder and President of Guitar Club
Finalist in Ironhacks Coding Competition
Honors College
Participated in the Soybean Innovation Competition–didn’t win though :frowning:

Recommendations were alright, one was from my physics advisor and the other came from my mechanics teacher, whose class I did quite well in.

I believe the essays were where I gave my best impression. I wrote about my internship with NASA and the research I did on near-earth asteroids, and how that connects to wanting to be an astronaut one day. I tied that with Cornell by mentioning specific professors and research topics I wanted to get involved with, as well as mentioning how the specific engineering program’s ideals and values matched up with my own. In the main essay, I talked a lot about my high school past, explaining where things went wrong and how I worked harder than ever to change myself for the better. To tie that in with transferring, I also explained a lot about how I am currently struggling to change majors at Purdue and the many loops I had to jump through to even get a chance at switching.

If you guys are looking for some sign that you’re being considered: I got a request for my grades and questions about my transcripts about a week prior to today, and so if y’all get something like that, then it probably means they’re not outright rejecting you, otherwise they wouldn’t bother contacting you. I don’t know how much financial aid I’m getting though, that’s apparently coming at a later date so I just gotta keep hoping lol

To my fellow engineering applicants who are still awaiting a decision: Don’t lose hope! I was rejected by four other colleges already and I was really not expecting this turn of events so keep those fingers crossed everyone!

Good Luck!

@futur3clssof2o2o i got waitlisted CALS bio i haven’t read anyone on this thread who got in non-GT

@zintergalatic Thank you so much to hear your story. Love that you did NASA seems like a cool essay I would like to read. Appreciate the heads up and enjoy the acceptances with your family. We applicants stay waiting.

So I was checking my financial aid because I’m still submitting documents from IDOC, I checked to see the due date for me has changed from March 15/2018 to March 15/ 2019 for the deadline. Does this give an indication that I’m being accepted and they moving in the process or I’m just being played to waste more time so I get rejected.

I got accepted in Mechanical Engineering yesterday!

@zintergalactic Do you start as Sophomore and Junior student?

@redtoma Have a great time and best of school BTW

@redtoma I just finished my freshman year, so I will start as a sophomore at Cornell
@ChadisWack Thanks! Best of luck to you! And I’m not too sure about the financial aid, because my portal changed to a login site, and I didn’t actually keep track of the dates  sorry

Applied for Dyson, still haven’t heard back. Anyone else in the same boat?

Accepted into Cornell-mechanical engineering junior transfer.

College GPA
4.0/4.0
SAT 2070
SAT Math II- 800
SAT physics- 780

Decent Recommendations
Good research experience
I feel I wrote some strong essays.

@BBBBSSSS congratulations, enjoy my fellow engineer. I got a question, were you notify by the head of the department before your decision was posted on tuesday?

@CoveredCalls Yep im still waiting. I wish theyd just tell us bc I have other offers on the table I need to commit to before June 1st!

@ChadisWack I was accepted to Mech E this Tuesday and had received an email from the head of mechanical engineering admissions a week prior.

Yeah I remember you telling me that @shermama96 , just wanted to see consistency in that so every engineer gets a heads up

@BotanyandMed Thank you for much!

@zintergalactic @BBBBSSSS Are you guys Citizen and Did you get any Financial Aid?

@mattmckenney7 Hey, I replied back to your message! I wasn’t sure if you check this website often or not.

anyone waitlisted at CALS hear anything?

anyone who applied to SHA still waiting?

@dogluvr99 Yea me. I applied SHA and still have not got a decision. Are you applying to SHA as well?
Do you think that getting a decision late is a good sign (since a few SHA ppl who got their decisions earlier were rejected/WL)?

@hihi02 nope :frowning: looking at past threads no one has gotten off of it either
