Accepted SHA!
non-TO from California
is there a minimum GPA that I need to get to not get rescinded?
what are your stats? My son is seeking to transfer from community college to SHA as a rising sophmore with a 3.9 college GPA, tons of service experience and ECs. He’s in Europe now so I don’t know whether he has been notified. Thanks for letting me know.
Also, does anyone know if SHA will inform parents about acceptance/rejection in light of my son traveling?
REJECTED- Non TO Human Ecology Applicant. I’m disappointed because my twin Brother got in as a TO for another school within Cornell.
May is almost over!! I haven’t heard from Cornell Transfer Admissions yet this anticipation is killing me!
Did people start hearing decisions already?
rejected CALS
Accepted: Dyson Applied Economics and Management
Community College in Seattle ( 60 credits in 4 long, fast paced…soul draining quarters)
Rising Junior
Avg. GPA-3.87
30 years old- Non Traditional Student
Spent 12 years Commercial Fishing on the Bering Sea for 5 months a year in Alaska, living between boats and a backpack, using my earnings to fund/organize/ and lead international climbing expeditions around the world. 26 countries. Several trips to Himalayas, Patagonia, Andes, and assorted faces on the African continent.
I’m a narrative guy, in my essays I explained how I look at businesses as “stories” that can build upon themselves, I also did my best to explain how I look at economics through a cognitive science/evolutionary biological lens, versus taking a distilled quantitative approach. I praised the potential of using behavioral economics to yield conceptual breakthroughs etc. I was very specific on why I needed a number of the courses only offered through Dyson and SC Johnson. Clearly there was a few other punchlines that will remain classified.
I will be heading to the London School of Economics after Dyson for an accelerated one year MBA.
I’m very specific on what I’m doing…
For everyone who didn’t get in this round, do not lose faith in your abilities, our future depends on your intellect, resilience, and determination. Please, I beg you, please continue your academic warpath…It’s silly of us to put too much value in the name of our schools. The fact that you have pushed yourselves this far is proof that you are above and beyond the ambition of most people. The future depends on you, so continue to push yourselves toward greatness…
@adventurescholar congratulations! I loved the way you laid your thoughts. Which other schools did you apply/get into? What’s your major within Dyson? Using your own knowledge, how do you compare and contrast Dyson, Stern, and MSB? Imagine you’re accepted to all of them and you live in DC.
Accepted into CALS as a non - TO applicant from a community college
@yayy12 Did you receive your “Welcome packet” yet? If you did, how long did it take after your decision?
Accepted: Dyson School of Applied Economics and Management

High School GPA: 3.8 weighted / Not sure un-weighted (Had C’s in a couple of classes)
Extracurriculars:
-Worked 2 part-time jobs and a finance internship (worked in total more than 60 hours a week)
-Managing Editor of my school’s newspaper
-VP of Membership and Finance of the American Marketing Association
-VP of Golden Key International Honour Society
-Volunteer for the New Orleans Film Festival
-Wrote, directed, and produced a short film that was selected into my school’s film festival
-Co-produced and edited a friend’s film
-(Also added extracurriculars from high school: show choir and dance)
Application Components:
-Submitted my terrible high school SAT score (1260/1600)
-Attached my resume
-Submitted 3 letters of rec (English professor, Marketing professor, and Newspaper adviser)
-Wrote a personal statement: I talked about my love for film and how it is a powerful medium that provokes thought and feeling. I wrote how I’ve personally used it as a gateway to promote unity, diversity, and conversation about taboo subjects like mental health or sex. I explained that I wanted to go to a university that has an emphasis on serving the greater good and a commitment to the direct application of learned concepts. I wanted to be at a place that allowed students to specialize in any field while also being given the context and breadth of other fields.
-Answered the Why Cornell? prompt: emphasized Cornell’s motto of an exposure to multiple fields in order to be better prepared for the future. Mentioned a specific business class that I would be excited taking and why. I mentioned a club I would love to be a part of and the specific things I would be doing if I was a member and how it ties into me being a business student with an arts background. Mentioned the many service initiatives they have and how being a Cornell student means learning for a better future.
Tip: Try to have your application surround one, cohesive theme. Mine was pursuing business to supplement my arts background (applying business to film) and how that would help me achieve my goal of being a film producer.
Sounds like a really impressive and talented transfer batch. Looking forward to meeting you all at Dyson!
Are there any Dyson students still waiting on a decision? Seems like they are going to drag this out into June now.
Oopssss! I have been to accepted Dyson in April… they said that they will send a welcome packet including FA and housing info, but I haven’t received them yet. Today, they sent an email that they’ve withdrawn their offer of admission because I did not respond to their offer in 30 days. HOW CAN I REPLY WHEN I DON’T HAVE THE FINANCIAL INFO???
to everyone who got accepted, how long did it take to receive your admissions package?
I would call them ASAP!!! @yayy12
Received my welcome packet this afternoon…are you sure they had the right address? @yayy12
Still haven’t received a decision is that ok?
My son got his packet 4 days after acceptance date so something doesn’t smell right here…
