If you want to pledge a top tier frat simply because it’s a top tier frat then goodluck… Somehow I doubt you’ve been to parties at all 5 of those houses, much less know the brothers well enough to say you’re looking to pledge one of them.

If you fit in, more power to you and I hope you get in. Just don’t rush them because they’re the coolest people on campus according to an online forum.

basically all the mid to top frats mix with almost all the sororities except for a few that dont mix much. there are a few disagreements between houses that cause a few houses not to mix with each other but in general everyone meets everyone and its kind of up to you to make your friends. sorry if you were hoping that making it into a certain house would make your social life perfect

Ok wow. I want to pledge a top tier frat because they have what I like. Good parties with attractive girls and a decent time hanging out. This is not high school if I click with a fraternity I will probably get a bid.
I know a bunch of guys in a few houses here from high school.

Sarcasm
sorry not to be rudebut everyone wants to join the frats for the same reason people go to harvard.they sound good to otheres. Go to a house you like!
Not my forum but itsall good.

I’ll chime in since so little has been said about TKE.

I know a few people who are in TKE. They had a party last weekend (Death of Summer, which they have every year) which was pretty packed. They had a new party called El Dorado last semester that was pretty good two, with goldschlagger.

They tend to be a low-key house (I think around 30 guys total). They have a pretty good party floor. They might not have a huge house, but they can throw a party as good as the average frat (maybe not on the same level as SAE’s white party, but most others). After a hazing violation and weak pledge classes, they sort of fell off the radar a few years back. Brothers didnt’ give a s h i t at parties. They had a decent sized pledge class last year though, and the last two big parties they’ve had were pretty good.

Their problem is going to be advertising. Let’s face it, it’s hard to develop a name on campus. Their location sucks (down the street from Delta Chi). They don’t have the benefit of West to help them, which is the same problem plaguing other decent North houses. Sigma Chi probably has the best parties on North, or maybe second to Delta Chi. But they don’t get super crowded because of their location.

And as a corollary, would people still go to Thumpty if it were next to TEP and KDR? I think not-most freshman know that Thumpty is your pregaming for the bigger parties on your way down to west.

TKE has better parties right now than TEP, KDR, Acacia, AEPi, and arguably PiKapp. They lag behind Sig Chi and Delta Chi, but that’s mostly a function of their smaller house. They need a few more solid parties to build up a reputation. And it’ll probably take a while. But if they keep up the way they’re going, they’ll do it.

Is it possible to not get any bids during rush week? (obviously it’s possible but is it somewhat common for some people, or is there really a house/space for everyone?)

if you are invited to hang out with the frat or go to their next party, is there a good chance you will get a bid? Or is that just something drunk people do :P

Getting back to the other discussions, I like what I’m hearing/seeing (website-wise, anyway) about Alpha Tau Omega. Thoughts/stats/any insight on this frat? I was browsing their main website, but I didn’t find a link to the Cornell branch other than the very insignificant stats page on the Cornell Greek Scene link.

It’s kind of tough for me to really give pledging a serious chance since I’m going to be transferring in like, a week (maybe two) before spring rush, so I don’t know if that’s really enough time to get some face time. I guess I’ll just try to learn as much about the ones I’m interested in now.

Do some frats rush based on athletic qualities (or at least put it into consideration?) I’m not a football/baseball guy, but I love running, tennis, soccer, badminton, martial arts, and other somewhat off-center sports (always up for a good rugby game.) Haha now I feel like I’m asking a stupid question.

Yeah I caught that, ha. Lax eh? Eh…haven’t played that…

but with that said, does that mean a good amount of frats do recruit based on what either official sports or intramural sports you play? (Or again, at least consider it?)

Some houses have sports team affiliations because the freshmen get to know the upperclassmen first semester when they are on the same team and then decide to rush where they already have friends.

While playing a certain sport does give you something in common, it obviously isn’t the only thing when making a decision to give a bid.

Ah, that makes sense, yet again a downside of getting there in spring.

Guess the best I can do is just check into the frats I’m interested in, try to find out some info and make an impact when I get there if I decide to try.

So, does anyone know if there is a formal rush for sophmore/juniors in the fall (Like this week, with tabling, etc…). FYI I’m a junior transfer. I ask because I have a strong connection one frat but I feel as though I haven’t weighed my options well enough yet. Also, if I’m being invited to numerous events with the brothers, is it likely that I’m getting a bid?

Time seems to be an issue here, so any insight would be appreciated…

For the fall it isn’t formal rush, its informal. Only some fraternities participate and its up to you if you would like to accept a bid now if given one, or wait to see all of the fraternities in January. I would suggest thinking about this specific fraternity instead of what you might be missing out on

This message goes out to all the Cornell Freshmen,
DO NOT TRUST THIS RANKINGS
I repeat, DO NOT TRUST THIS RANKINGS
this rankings are from a persepctive of few individuals who favor certain fraternities. They’re trying to lure you guys into their houses. My advice is go around all the houses during the rush week and you find out for yourselves who is upper tier and lower tier.
