cornell guaranteed transfer benefits

I am a college freshman at Carnegie mellon University in the humanities school. Last spring i was accepted to cornell as a guaranteed transfer, basically meaning that i was accepted into the ILR program for fall 2010. It is now halfway through my freshman year, and I need to decide whether i want to transfer to cornell or not. I’m extremely happy with CMU, and only would switch if the cornell experience would be important enough academically speaking to my future, because otherwise, it is an enormous upheaval without much benefit. the program i am currently enrolled in is one of the better humanities programs that cmu offers, however, cmu is not an exceptionally strong liberal arts school. what are the benefits?

You need to figure out what your career plans are (generally speaking, of course) and decide which school would place you on a more favorable trajectory to achieve those ends. That said, you have to figure out what your priorities are: Are academics subordinate to your social life in college or vice versa? Or is the academic disparity between Cornell and CMU negligible so as not to necessitate a transfer?

The benefits are in the eyes of their beholders, so to speak: You need to figure out which school will help you more in the long run and then decide whether or not the net gain would be great enough to warrant leaving.
