I was contacted by an alumni from the human ecology school for an one on one informational session for me to know more about the school. She is going to fill an online form afterwards though. I want to know…is this common or am I just lucky? I don’t think anyone applies to human ecology in my area.
Extremely common. If there are alumni in your area, you are contacted. Simple as that…
Oh, I thought it would be an interview then, why is it called a contact session? I didn’t think there would be Human Development major around where I live lol.
An information session and a CAAAN Alumni interview are different. An information session (for Human Ecology) is offered by the admissions officers themselves. A CAAAN Alumni interview is to make sure you’re a good fit and to update any accomplishments you’ve gotten since you’ve applied. These are dependent on your geographical region. There are more HumEc alumni then you would expect. Good luck!
Okay. The alumni is making it sound like it’s not an interview but an informational session, and I was told to ask about anything regarding Human Ecology. Thanks.
Hello I have another question. I participated in the Engineering Diversity Hosting Weekend Fly-in. Would it be bad to mention this during my session or should I just say I visited?
If it’s relevant, feel free to say it. Don’t just blurt it out for nothing, but if s/he asks if you visited, feel free to mention it. I’m sure s/he will be interested, and it’ll give you something to talk/brag about
Are you sure? Won’t it sound like that I’m not 100% interested in Human Ecology? I was interested in Engineering until I found Humec and it fits me so well…
@ThePariah What exactly is a informational session and how is it different from an interview. Do you just ask questions about Cornell for the person to answer or is it more like an interview where they want to know more about you? Thank you for clarification.
I think it’s still an interview, just informal…they have to get to know you in some way…
Unfortunately, I got to the place 15 minutes early and sat at the table by the door but she didn’t seem to see me…and assumed that I was late when I emailed her at 3:08 (meeting was 2:30 and I got there at 2:15)…I looked for a person with Cornell apparel…nope…I’m emailing admissions.
@ThePariah oh my that is the worst luck ever… im so sorry for you
It’s alright. She was apparently there since 1:30, but sat all the way in the back. I explained to her that I was there since 2:15 but sat by the door. We are meeting on Sunday at a different place…(Starbucks). I just hope this doesn’t hurt me…not really my fault.
Wow I guess this is why it’s in people’s nature to procrastinate. Dude that’s rough…
It’s alright…should be fine though…I think she understands.
