I want to major/minor in entrepreneurship in college. Currently, cornell is tied with babson for my first choice college(s). But, Babson is ranked #1 for entrepreneurship; cornell isn’t in the top ten. Would it make more sense to apply to babson ( a school i’m sure i could get in with plenty $$$, or ivy-league cornell university?

Note: i’m sure that entrepreneurship is what I want to do.

Here’s another ranking for you… Cornell is currently #13 nationally by U.S. News, and Babson isn’t even ranked in the top 4 tiers which is hundreds of colleges.

Cornell is very strong in entrepreneurship. As a cornell student, you can take AEM (Cornell’s undergraduate business program) entrepreneurship classes or Johnson’s school classes (NBA, graduate business school).

sorry for typos in my first post. these laptop keys are pretty slick.

I know cornell is strong in entrepreneurship; but babson is purely entrepreneurial, whereas cornell only allows for a minor in entrepreneurship - which I guess is better - but still, babson is ranked higher for entrepreneurship.

The reason why I really want to know which school is better is because i’m applying to CALS ED for the class of 2011. I have an alumni mentor, teachers, and my guidance counselor backing me. I think I might have a chance at cornell, but IF babson is the better school, applying to cornell wouldn’t make sense, given that I could get a LOT more dollars (as in…full ride) to babson.

Also, a side note: how heavily does CALS weigh career experience? I’m asking because i’m registring my sole proprietorship this fall, and i plan to leverage this extensively in my app. any suggestions?

Cornell was on the top-ten list of U.S. universities receiving the most patents in 2003, and is one of the nation’s top five institutions in forming start-up companies.

So you can start your own company successfully. Most companies fail in the first five years, so this would teach you how to both start one and manage one successfully to help it grow and prosper. and why not follow your passion!

you major/minor in entrepreneurship so that you’ll have adequate knowledge of how to set up, grow, and manage your own business. It is different from other business majors in that true entrepreneurs care not about job placement. Thus, they are not afraid to major in what they would truly like to pursue. Most kids that major in entrepreneurship are the kids who started successful businesses in high school and don’t need the financial “security” of a job - only the knowledge to make their business(es) even more successful.

You should post this thread somewhere other than the Cornell forum. May I suggest the College Admission or College Search & Selection forum? You’ll get more honest and (slightly more) unbiased response there.

pfft you know you love it Now if I had only gotten my AP scores today, that would be a really happy smiley face. But nope, for now it’s just a slight smile lol

Yup I’m a GT in ILR and I can’t wait until next year. We will both be exploring Cornell life for the first time . Best of luck on ur application and I hope that we will be seeing eachother!
