I am transferring this next Semester (Class of 2022) I will be a sophomore, and I am struggling to make a decision between Cornell’s Hospitality School and Northwestern for Business. I am planning on going into Consulting so I was wondering which school would be a better fit.
I am planning on majoring in RTVF at Northwestern, minoring in Business Institutions and getting a Kellogg Certificate in Managerial Analytics, but I’ve heard that the math pre-requisites are pretty difficult and I do not consider myself proficient in math so I’m afraid of being overwhelmed. I’m also wondering how valuable the certificate program is in the consulting world because it isn’t a business major.
For Cornell, I like the Hospitality school, but I do not want to be limited to just the hospitality industry.
Read he course catalogues for both programs, and the specific requirements for your possible majors. Contact the placement offices at each program, and find out where the graduates go.
The certificate program is an accelerated/advanced program. The classes are grad level. The same profs teach the same classes offered to MBA/Masters/PhD students; the first course is accerleted combining two grad level introductory finance courses into one (intro as in no prior exposure is required but it will dive deep and covers plenty of materials fast). I don’t know if the math pre-reqs are actually used in those core courses but at the minimum, they serve as a screening tool to make sure the candidates are ready for the rigor and pace.
The placement is excellent because it’s using Kellogg’s recruiting resources. But if you are not confident with math, it’s probably not a good fit.
