She was actually the assistant dean to be clear. So I attended a three hour info session at CAS but it’s was all information for freshman applicants. After the session ended I went over to the admissions officer who presented and told him about my background and my story and he was nice and told me he’ll get me someone in the office that can help me. He then came out of the office and told me the assistant dean will meet you in forty minutes and that’s how it happened…
My transfer transcript is still gone, thus, my financial aid checklist is empty. I did comb through the Fall 2019 transfer thread but I do not remember seeing anything about this sort of thing. I will continue to check my financial aid checklist on a daily and update if the item comes back and if It changes to “ordered” (assuming they still do that because people have gotten accepted on this thread with an “initiated” status).
If my financial aid checklist item never returns and I get accepted, that will be a huge finding for future applicants.
@cattt1107 You are totally fine. As @sam577 pointed out, they do not even begin to review applications until October 15. For many applicants, that date gets pushed back even more as some applicants (at the time) have yet to turn in their forms.
@vexedtodeath I’m certain it’s a glitch that has been resolved for most. Regardless, I called the financial aid office yesterday and they said that the disappearance of the financial aid to do list was not indicative of anything. Weirdly enough, minutes after my call, the issue seemed to be resolved. In previous posts, people noted their checklist changing from “initiated” to “ordered” before disappearing; so, either we did not catch the “ordered” status, or more likely, it was simply a glitch — something not foreign to cornell’s financial aid site.
Did anyone besides CAS or ILR get their decision on Tuesday?
@hilareolas Yes, I believe it is a glitch as well. I try to check my financial aid checklist on a daily basis, thus, I feel like I would have noticed the status changing from “initiated” to “ordered.” Then again the change might have occurred in less than 24 hours. Nevertheless, usually the “ordered” status change occurs close to when decisions are released like Monday, therefore, perhaps the change has yet to happen. It is still gone, thus, I believe the glitch is still active.
@M_51222 I feel like there should have been more schools that released decisions, perhaps the people that received their decisions form the other schools were not a part of this thread.
@vexed2death it is weird though because for the rest of us the FinAid checklist has returned after about an hour. Why would this glitch only remain for you?
@Sam577 That is just how glitches work, the unpredictability is the best part. @kimnyongan also stated that his/her financial aid checklist is blank. Not sure if that is still the case.
Either way, it could be because I am the only person in this thread waiting for a decision from ILR or a host of other reasons that do not relate to an acceptance.
@DrewGonz19 I apologize, I forgot to answer your question. I spoke to an admissions officer in ILR that stated that the acceptance rate for both Fall and Spring is the same, which is confusing because in the Spring, ILR admits 10-20 applicants and in the Fall they admit roughly 100 applicants. The admissions officer implied that this has much to do with the competency/passion/qualification of the applicants in each term. I suspect they also want to save more spots for the Fall because most people apply to Cornell in the Fall.
It really depends because in your case you would likely shine more in the Spring than in the Fall because in the Fall there would be more applicants who have similar achievements. However, you would not have to squeeze into the small admitted pool for the Spring, which may or may not be difficult for you. It is certainly a gamble either way.
In short, you never know which cycle is better to apply in because Cornell does a decent job of balancing everything to make sure nobody gets an unfair advantage due to the fact that they applied in the right cycle. Thus, you may certainly find success in the Fall 2020 application cycle.
When applying to ILR, focus on your strengths and passion and overall give the application your best. Best of luck!!!
It’s funny to think of future applicants, combing through this thread, trying to establish new signs for acceptance based on these disappearances and “glitches”.
How do you guys speak with admissions officers? Is there a specific phone number to call publicly available?
@hilareolas I spoke to one during my visit, but you can also call the admissions office although I wouldn’t call the people answering the phones, admissions officers.
@vexed2death how did you acquire all this information? I almost suspect that you work at Cornell lol. Regardless, your help is appreciated!
@hilareolas ILR has a person you can call/email to ask questions and that person happens to be an admissions officer. I am also certain you can contact other schools’ admissions office and ask to speak to a counselor/admissions officer and they will put you through (unlike other prestigious schools)
@sam577 I certainly do not work at Cornell. I have been through the application process before. Additionally, (aside from speaking to several admissions officers on different occasions) I have done a lot of research on how Cornell conducts the transfer admissions process as a pastime/escape from responsibilities. Most of that includes combing past transfer threads, thus, it is amazing how much you can learn from those.
As an applicant you don’t need to know much about the application process, however, you can reach out to your admissions officer and let them know you exist and ask questions that show your interest in Cornell. They want prospective applicants to reach out to them, otherwise they would never hand out their phone numbers/emails (most admissions officers for other prestigious schools don’t). Lastly, do some research on your intended area of study to strengthen your essay.
Glad I was able to help. Good luck!!!
Is anyone else just not able to log into their financial aid checklist anymore? Probably another glitch but normally after I went to the back page, I was able to see it. But this time I’m seeing, “Failure of server APACHE bridge:”
@indyextramusic Same here. I have tried logging in on Safari, Edge, and Google Chrome and I still get the same error, thus, the issue is on their end.
I remember in previous threads, people mentioned that the financial aid checklist website usually undergoes maintenance right before decisions are released to update the “initiated” status of documents to “ordered’ for accepted applicants. Not sure how accurate this is but hopefully the transfer transcript does reappear with an “ordered” status for all those that are accepted in the upcoming wave. Best of luck to everyone!!!
I’m able to log in. I highly doubt their website would undergo maintenance on a weekend; so, it’s probably a glitch or something on your end.
More on the error. https://renaps.com/en/blog/how-to/oracle-fusion-middleware-11g-troubleshooting-the-error-failure-of-server-apache-bridge
It’s likely an error on your end, as we’re all logging into the same site and I don’t seem to have that problem. I wouldn’t be able to see why I can log on but you guys can’t, as I don’t think Cornell would filter certain users out of their financial aid site like that, nevertheless on a weekend.
@hilareolas I am able to login as well now and my transfer transcript is still gone. Did anyone’s document status change to “ordered” on the financial aid checklist?
mine is still here.
It doesn’t seem that those who were accepted last week had a change in their FinAid checklist to ordered, so things might be different this year.
@sam577 I noticed the same thing. I thought it was because the first wave release was a little haphazard. However, now I am thinking that Cornell caught on to the fact that applicants figured out the trick and subsequently stopped changing the status to avoid encouraging/discouraging applicants. I guess we will see.
does anyone on here have the TO?
