Cornell Spring 2020 Transfer Thread

@congrats Allow me to clarify on need-aware admissions for international applicants. Cornell is need-aware when it comes to international applicants, nonetheless, this may not exactly be a bad thing. It all depends on your need, if your need is high relative to the other international applicants, then this will likely affect their decision in a negative way. However, if your need is low in relation to the other international applicants, then it will likely not affect your application; in fact, it may even give you a slight advantage.

@Congrats To add on what @vexed2death said, assuming that you have applied to other good programs, your chance of getting into one of them is high.

While Cornell may be our dream school, non of us actually know what place will best fit us, and only time will tell. It is not worth to overly stress over a future we cannot know or control.

@vexed2death @Sam577 Much appreciate your input!! That is indeed very relieving and makes sense in that there’s no utility for being excessively stressed about the result. Although Cornell is my dream school AND very competitive one, God only knows if I can get in lol. I hope the decisions will be made asap and we all get in!!!

@vexed2death unfortunately they don’t accept videos or any audition materials :frowning: but thanks for all the info!

Anyone here applying to SHA?

@congrats Totally, as long as you did your best, there are many prestigious schools that will not overlook your passion and dedication. Perhaps one of those may be Cornell.

For some reason, Cornell is now on the regular admission cycle. I believe that this means that all decisions will be released on the same day. However, you can still submit supplemental materials until November 15. Thus, if we have to wait for all decisions to be completed, we may have to wait for the admissions committees to make decisions on the people who submitted their supplemental materials on November 15. In short, we may be in for one heck of a wait so prepare yourselves. They should be out by Christmas, hopefully…

@indyextramusic In that case, they likely want to see an emphasis on passion in your field over competency. This places a lot more weight on your essays, which should have talked about your passion in great detail.

Where do I find the midterm report form? Cornell’s website only has the form for UCA users.

@vexed2death Thanks!

Hi everyone! So, I’m a little worried because on my ‘check my status’ part of the financial aid page it says I have nothing on my to-do list?? but I didn’t apply for financial aid so maybe that’s why? Also, on the official check my status page where you type in your email, it doesn’t show my college report as being uploaded? Should I be concerned?

@yumyums123 the college report doesn’t show for me either. Perhaps they didn’t process it yet.

@yumyums123 If you did not apply for financial aid, your financial aid checklist will be blank since the financial aid office will not review your file.

@yumyums123 @sam577 We still do not have access to the application checklist so none of our supplemental materials (whether or not we have submitted them) will be on the application portal. Soon (hopefully), we will receive access to the application checklist, which will show us all of the supplemental materials we need to submit and whether or not the admissions office has received them from us. The admissions office will also email you at some point (likely after Nov 15) to let you know that they are missing supplemental materials from you if they never received something from you. In the meantime, supplemental materials are due on Nov 15 and for now, follow the advice on the application portal “You do not need to do anything further at this time, and there is no need to contact our office to see if we have received your application materials.”

can we send our high school transcript to undergradapp@cornell.edu or does it have to be physical mail?

@M_51222 Only your high school can send your official transcripts, thus, you cannot mail (or email for that matter) your own high school transcript. Furthermore, only colleges can email your official transcripts as they are only ones to have access to electronically send official transcripts (as far as I am aware) to other colleges. All high schools must mail in your transcript. If your high school cannot do this, you can add a high school counselor, registrar, etc. as a high school official recommender on your Common App (only to electronically submit your official transcript, not to write you a recommendation). However, I am not sure you can add any recommenders once the Common App is submitted.

what if mu high school emailed it to undergradapp@cornell.edu?

My*

@M_51222 Best thing to do is to contact your admissions office/counselor/etc. ASAP to let them know that this happened and seek their advice on the matter.

You will likely have to resend your official transcript, this time by mail. The deadline to submit supplemental materials is Nov 15 so you still have plenty of time to get your official high school transcript in. If you do not wish to send it in right away, monitor the application checklist to see if they received an official high school transcript from you at some point. If weeks go by without Cornell receiving it, then they likely saw it as unofficial and are still awaiting an official high school transcript from you. The worst thing you could do is wait until Nov 15 to mail it in as it may take a week or more for the official transcript to be mailed and processed and that may not bode well for you. Best of luck!

Is anyone else having trouble logging into the financial aid to-do list? I was allowed to login once but haven’t been able to since. Should I be worried?

@indyextramusic Probably not. Every time I login to the financial aid checklist, I get a “CORS Violation Error!” I then close the current tab and open a new tab and automatically see my financial aid checklist.

I think it is safe to say that their website is not the best and they probably have gotten a lot of traffic on it at this time of the year. If the above solution does not work, I would try various troubleshooting methods like logging in on a different computer, using a different web browser, clearing your web history, etc., etc.

If all else fails, you may contact their admissions office or wait to see if the situation is resolved soon (maybe they are processing documents/updating your profile). If you are not waiting for financial aid materials to be received then you do not really need to actively check your checklist anymore.
