Cornell, Stanford, Darthmoth and the likes

I would like to apply to Cornell, Stanford, Darthmouth, and similar schools, but the problems is that none of them an accounting major which is my back up major incase my first choice didnt work out. Am i mistaken and they do have, or if not, are similar alternative beside state schools ?

Cornell does have an undergraduate business school with an accounting concentration. You need to check with them if it allows you to sit for the CPA exam in NY. The school is called Dyson. Dartmouth does not have an undergraduate business major. The only Ivy’s with an undergraduate business major are Cornell, Dyson and Penn, Wharton.

Wharton is top ranked.

The Cornell Hotel School shouldn’t be overlooked in this conversation. It offers basically a business degree with a hospitality twist. Lots of the courses have overlap with Dyson. To be admitted to the Hotel school, you need a specific set of interests/experiences, but it’s worth the time it would take to look into that.

also, my S is an ORIE major in engineering and is doing the Dyson business minor for engineers. He is concentrating his efforts in accounting and is really enjoying his classes. I do think he’ll take more accounting classes than are required and has the option of taking some higher level ones at the Johnson graduate business school before he graduates.

ILR also lends itself to business. ILR’s core courses focus on the employee, the workplace, and organizational structures, while Hotel focuses more on operations and does include more actual business courses, but ILR allows enough free electives that it is easy to spin as business. PAM within Human Ecology is another option, but the focus there is policy.

^ I wasn’t aware of that, but those are great options. The increased funding/expansion of Dyson has made it possible for students of all colleges to get business education. There are student organizations that focus on accounting activities, so that is something to explore as well. My S is in a consulting group on campus and they do projects for real organizations. I’m sure accounting clubs have the same opportunities.
