I was browsing the Cornell Summer College website the other day, and look what I found:

Summer College moves from West to North Campus in 2006
Do you remember during walking (or should we say trudging?) up the hill (Libe Slope) from West Campus for Summer College classes? Well, there’s exciting news for SC students this summer and it’s a big change. No more hill! We are moving our residences and dining to North Campus.

For the foreseeable future, six-week program students will reside in Mary Donlon Hall and three-week students will live in two of the Low Rises. Summer Cornellians will eat in Northstar Dining in Appel Commons and Trillium.

We fondly say goodbye West Campus, Noyes Community Center and Jansen’s Dining after more than 20 years of summer fun on West.

Now, what’s this change all about? It’s related to Cornell’s “Residential Initiative” and one of it’s primary goals: to develop a first-year residential experience by housing all freshmen on North Campus. Now, the Summer College students will have a chance to experience what it might be like as a Cornell first-year student.

Interesting…

" Mary Donlon Hall and three-week students will live in two of the Low Rises."

That kinda sucks. . . .since they’re here in the summer they should have given them court and mews. They have air conditioning.

Ah, that sucks for us! I remember being in the boiling Class of 1918 Dorms and like… dying. And that slope?? KILLER! But it was beautiful andw e had very easy access to Collegetown and Uris Library

I am hoping that isn’t a bad thing, seeing as most people seemed to have enjoyed West Campus.

Oh man…
I lived on west campus last year for the Summer College. (Mennen, baby!)
And I walked up Libe Slope every morning to catch a bus to the Vet School area.
And we had them tearing down some Class Of… building every morning at 6. That was fun.
Oh well, at least I got a free TCAT bus pass to use because my classes were so far away :)

West Campus was a lot of fun, except I personlly got stuck in the ****ty dorms… with no A/C… in 90 degree weather. Trekking up Libe Slope in midday sun was horrible, haha

I was in class of 18, which will be demolished in…about 8 months. I loved it anyway.

Haha, I was in class of 18 too… it had a lot of character once you learned how to cool off

So I take it that it’s good for people to spend some time in West Campus just for the experience. Hmmm… even with 90 degree humid weather with no A/C. Haha maybe you guys are just insane. Just kidding.

I spent the summer on North Campus when I was in HS and didn’t know summer school wasn’t still there until I dropped my kid off a few summers ago. I’m sure that those of you who were on West for the summer still had a great time, but being in North for the summer is the right move, for the same reasons Freshman are all placed there.

I was accepted to the SC! I was wondering if the classes are really difficult and if one can have enough time to do all the work and still have a social life there?
