Cornell University Early Decision for Fall 2024 Admission

Is it true that Cornell deferral rate is very low? Does anyone know what odds are of getting accepted in RD?

I’d love to know the deferral percentage. My kid was deferred for Nolan. I know she’ll do fine wherever she lands. And Cornell would be really great for her. She’s a natural at hospitality.

US college ranking by major agencies such as USNEWS and WSJ had a major methodological change in 2023. Social mobility is as important as # of Nobel prize winners and major innovations. With this change, the ranking of major public schools goes up dramatically at the expense of private universities. However, private universities will have to catch up in terms of social mobility - selecting right people and offering more generous financial aid to keep or reclaim their ranking. The same thing is happing in Corporate America where major financial giants like Blackrock offer preferential loans to companies who advocate for ESG. That is one of the reasons why all major CEOs are doing the same thing literally over night. Relax folks, nothing we can do about this. Over time, things will get redistributed and the lines will get blurred.

Hi all,
My daughter applied ED to Cornell Nolan (hospitality) and was deferred. Amazing stats, tons of related work experience, varsity sports captain, tons of leadership blah blah blah.
I honestly have not heard of one person accepted ED to this program. Has anyone else heard of any student accepted ED to Cornell Nolan? Thanks!

Among the most competitive public HS i know of in sf bay area, each school only gets about 1-3 ED this year. This is a LOT worse than any of previous years. Don’t feel bad if your did not make it. Take your kid for a nice dinner. Words matter. Kids worked really hard with this daunting application process in the middle of high load of classwork and activities in senior year of HS.

Deferred isn’t a rejection. As they are taking less ED applications this year, it means there will be more room for those that were deferred.

Nolan accepts only something like 75 students in ED, so it should not be surprising that you don’t know one personally!

You can’t take it personally.

Everyone thinks their kid was perfect. But the schools do it without emotion.

Maybe you get in. If not, from UNLV to Michigan state to UCF and more, there are many fantastic programs.

Thank you all for taking the time to respond! Very grateful

Same. DD was deferred from Nolan. Has amazing leadership experience in hospitality. Has the grades. Fingers crossed for both of our kids that it works out with Nolan.

Sort of an old post for this thread, but you have to admire the irony of saying that ED is not meant to game the system on a site with hundreds of threads about how best to game the system.

I got an email asking for missing financial aid documents. This was specific to us, listing out the documents missing, anyone else get this? Does this mean anything?

Yes. It means Cornell is missing financial aid documents from you. And that’s it.

Does everyone still have the CAAAN information on their application portal? For me it has vanished :frowning:

Hi I have a question- I’m RD and my fa docs still show processing on my to do list but idoc sent them. I emailed Cornell’s FA and they confirmed that they have everything that it’s just being reviewed. Yet other applicants have nothing to do showing on their to do list. Any idea why in your opinion?

There are approximately 70,000 applicants to Cornell, many of whom have applied for financial aid. They simply have not processed all of them yet. Many admitted students last year did not receive their financial aid packages until late April. That’s why it’s impossible to predict an admittance or denial based on the financial aid portal.
