Are you gonna go to Dyson? My brother goes to Cornell and let me tell u, they are Friendly there but they are soooo greedy! Everyone knows about this. Ask any student. They nickle and dime for everything! If they can charge you for anything- they will. And they never grant appeals for FA! But its a great school man! Where else are you considering? I got into UChicago last week but rejected at Vandy (and UNC) so go figure!
By the way if you are paying 15K at Cornell that is the lowest amount they charge. They will charge you that if you are homeless! I am not even kidding. It is the most expensive Ivy- by far. But Cornell is like Michigan or Northwestern in that it has a cool big state school vibe with lots of different people (but u get the added benefit of a very small college), not like the other Ivys which are much more cliqueish. Everyone likes it and you will too.
@BerryB7 I’m considering Emory, Rice, and Dyson. I haven’t heard back from Vandy yet. You were rejected from Vandy today? From the forums, I thought it was only acceptances in this wave tbh.
My NPC for Cornell said it should be around $4-5k per year. If it’s $15k, I don’t think I’ll attend.
As for the size and state school feel, I honestly wanted to attend a small LAC (Williams or Amherst). I don’t really like the idea of attending a large school, but Dyson is only like 600-700 students. I don’t think I’d enjoy Cornell as much as some of my other options, but it certainly has its advantages. However, one of my concerns is that I want to stay in the SE after school, and I know Cornell recruiting is mainly for the NE. I think like 70-75% of Dyson grads stay in the NE to work after graduation. Working in NYC or Boston doesn’t appeal to me in the slightest.
@Transfersssss The great thing is about Dyson is its about a 1/3 of the size of Williams. Less than that for Wharton. Tiny. All the kids know eachother and-until this year- half of sophomores were guaranteed transfers. There is a huge transfer group on West Campus (that is where u want to live) so it is like everyone is brand new- and many come from CC. You will feel at home- not like an outsider. Cornell has such a great name it doesnt matter where you work in the country - or world. Goizueta is great too tho! Rice and Vandy both great schools but no business. And I am not telling you this for any reason other than personal knowledge - Vandy has a bias against CC. They don’t accept CC transfers. And students are not as welcoming of them like Cornell. Vandy’s admin say they want students who have already made the ‘transition’ to living on campus, which makes no bloody sense since All their freshmen are new to campus living. Now of course they have accepted CC transfers, but exceptionally few, and they waitlist the best ones, but they usuall never get off it. So do not take it personally if you don’t get in there. Now Compare that with Princeton. Princeton ONLY accepts CC transfers whom are ex-military. I think only 1 of the past 25 admits in 2 years was not CC or a vet at P’ton, so kids are wising up and many that don’t fit their profile are not applying there anymore for transfer admission. Their transfer apps were down this year. IMO both schools are cheating students in a big way by not being truthful. Anyway if you like business as a degree, Goizueta beats all the other southeast schools- it has a great name too in the entire southeast and nation, really.
@Transfersss Rejects aren’t posting! Haha. Trust me, they have accepts and rejects in every round, with few exceptions -and maybe at the bitter end! Next wave will be the reverse probably. Dyson is like a very small friendly LAC. That was my point. Maybe 1/3 of the size of Williams? Less than a third of Wharton (and a MUCH friendlier and healthier culture than Wharton’s too!). But when the school day is over at Dyson you go back to a larger community. You don’t bring the whole group back home, so you are not seeing everyone all day every day, which I think is healthy. But most of your friends will be Dyson. Just so you know (not many people do) Vandy, like Princeton, is not honest about who they accept as transfers. This comes from knowledge, not animus. For example, Vandy almost never accept CC transfers, so do not take it personally if you do not get in there. They waitlist them but not admit them. Doesn’t matter even if you are the most qualified in the transfer class. Princeton, on the other hand, only accepts CC and Vets- that is it! Really dishonest both schools for not being forthright with kids. But Goizueta is a top-notch program. Did you know Goizueta’s Dean just left to become the Dean of Wharton?! You really have incredibly good options!
Sorry for the double (almost duplicate) post - the original disappeared from my screen- then reappeared after I reposted! But I stand by both posts!!! Haha
Looking over past threads obviously there’s a waitlist for CALS and Dyson??? Don’t know if that’s true for this year.
@yjliu You mention waitlists for CALS and Dyson. I don’t think Admissions is done yet… are they?
Aren’t there people on this thread still waiting for an answer?
@16Skipper That was from threads in 2019 and 2018 transfer cycle… I was saying I didn’t know if it will hold true this year since it’s so unusual. And yeah me myself hasn’t received anything yet lol.
@yjliu Thanks for clarifying! Makes sense.
I did think there were still a few of us waiting for decisions.
what is non-to???
@BerryB7 - i can kinda second your post. I got waitlisted last year by Vanderbilt and i am coming in from an OOS CC… still waiting for my decision this year but damn, if what you say is completely true, thats a bit messed up
still waiting on dyson… ugh and a whole bunch of others -_-
Does anyone who applied to CAS get the result yet?
Those of you who have been admitted as rising sophomore transfer students: how closely did your aid package reflect your estimated aid from the College Board calculator?
Same question as @jadedsteph
Also, for those of you who have an EFC of $0, how much is your estimated net cost of attendance? I’ve been stressing about financial aid and would appreciate your input! Thank you
For admitted students:
How long did it take to receive your NetID after you submitted the deposit?
Hoping for an acceptance tomorrow!
@yjliu wishing you the best!
HERE IS a GOOD question for current applicants and future applicants.
DYSON or HAAS?
@yjliu - do u know if u are getting one tmr or waiting till next week?
I’m getting nervous
