Cornell University Fall 2020 Transfer

anyone accepted to College of Human Ecology?

@Transferboi84

Well tbh, $30k in debt isn’t that bad. That’s about the national average. $30k in debt on top of law/grad school debt isn’t ideal, but it’s not like you’re thinking about taking out $60k+.

The reality is that both schools will provide great options for law/grad school. I don’t necessarily think Cornell will give you an edge. If you like Berkeley, you’ll be debt-free upon graduation with very similar opportunities, so it’s really up to you. Would you attend Cornell for the extra money if you had virtually identical opportunities at the two schools? It seems like this boils down to a quality of life and preference question, and you need to ask yourself if that’s worth the $30k + interest.

I don’t like giving opinions based on my preferences, but if I were you and really liked both schools, I’d pick UCB if Cornell was only slightly ahead. If there’s a large distance between the two, I’d choose Cornell.

I also suggest posting your question under the “College Search and Selection” section on CC. You’ll get better answers there.

@Transferboi84 Obviously I don’t know what your situation is or what makes one school cheaper than the other, but have you considered contacting FA at Cornell to see if they can work with you to reduce how much you’d owe?

@Sydneyhou I was yesterday!

I think it also depends on where you live currently. If you’re in NYS, consider traveling costs by plane. My friends at long distance schools mention this a lot.

Which major in CALS?

@Yankeefan20 Development Sociology!

If anyone knows of any TO students not getting accepted, please update us. It’s not guaranteed, but we’ve been told it’s typically a lock as long as you get the GPA requirement covered ('24 TO hopeful).

I was accepted last Tuesday the 5th. Has anyone else who was accepted on the 5th received their transfer credit evaluation yet?

Anyone hear back from SHA?

Anyone get admitted to Dyson as a NON-TO Sophomore?

@tcwkdorms1034 I was accepted the 5th and still no credit evaluation

@Transferohno me

GOOD JOB! NOT MANY OF THOSE! Are you at a CC, LAC or 4 year?

@Transferohno CC. Here are my stats. I think my essays, EC’s, and personal story got me in. I don’t think they cared about my lowish test scores because I only went to high school for freshman year. They probably figured I would have scored higher with a typical education.

@transfersssss That is a really interesting story. Were you home schooled? Are you an international student?

@BerryB7 No, I’m from the Southeast U.S. and had to leave hs because of family circumstances. I ended up going to CC and taking the SAT once my circumstances returned to normal.

OK, that’s tough! Are you a URM?

@BerryB7 No, I’m a white male and not first-gen

Well Dyson is a helluva school! I saw you had enough credits for junior status (did you get your associates degree?) but yeah its normal they take a year away- will you be starting as a first semester sophomore if you go? I doubt I will get in!

@BerryB7 Hey, you never know. I thought I had a better chance at Williams (which was my first choice), but I ended up getting waitlisted. It seems like a lot of schools are accepting more transfers this year (except for small LACs). I don’t know if Dyson is taking a year away, but it will definitely take me 3 years to graduate just based on the requirements for AEM.
