Cornell University Waitlist Class of 2022

SUSSS

Thank you @Hephaestion - maybe I missed the sarcasm from Sentap, it’s hard to tell with text. I received the following email today: Are you still interested in coming to Cornell this fall as a Civil & Environmental Engineering major? (Please note that students who may be offered admission from the waiting list are not eligible to request a deferral of admission.) If you would like to attend Cornell in the fall of 2018, we would be honored to nominate you for consideration by the Selection Committee as we determine which students will be offered admission.

Many apologies for the quick time frame for this process, but I would appreciate hearing from you either way no later than 9AM (ET) tomorrow, May 8, 2018; if I do not hear from you by then, I will assume you are no longer interested in Cornell and will nominate another student from the waiting list. Please use the link below to send us an email with your decision.

I look forward to hearing from you very soon!

Clearly, the class of 2022 is NOT full, please keep the faith my equally deserving CC friends. I was nominated by CALS to the Selection Committee today. Biomedical & Environmental Engineering is a dual CALS/Engineering major.

It apparently is full for CAS @macnchz

@lenasharb please state your source clearly as statements like “full for CAS” on this forum may be taken for word by many.

@macnchz congratulations! when/how were you notified? Did you send loci?

@collegegainj thank you. I did send a carefully crafted LOCI. I sent followup materials notifying admissions of my additional achievements since I applied for RD 12/2017. I wrote to CALS admissions, NorthEast admissions contacts, Undergrad Admissions. My guidance counselor was not included in my solo efforts, I didn’t see how that would help. I almost missed the email because it was in my Promotions mailbox at 12:07, not my inbox. It was resent to me, at first it said Civil & Environmental, then it came again with Environmental Engineering major-- I am Bio and Environmental Engineer. I was accepted at a few colleges in their biomed or bioeng or civil & environmental major. Every college tucks my bioengineering major somewhere different- Engineering, CALS & ENG, even in Chem Eng at some colleges. I am in a whirl of emotions, hoping this pans out. If not, I did put down a large required deposit of $800 at Plan B, another fine engineering college that I was getting excited about. I am hoping the good people on this site get similar news or continue to be excited about their plan B.

Dear xxxmac,

Greetings from Cornell University’s College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS). I hope this message finds you well.

I am writing to let you know that CALS is planning on admitting a small number of students off the waiting list.

Hey ya’ll i decided to post as a pay it forward since im always reading up on here but i just received the official congrats email from HumEc saying i was admitted off the waitlist.

Because my application was very underwhelming with less than a 4.0 and less than a 1400 sat score I took the waitlist as an opportunity to further share my expression. I know my personal statement and personal statement on the school to prison pipe line was what got me considered in the first place. I made a video of my current project and got it.

Ill share it here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XkUUOZ2Nxog

good luck to everyone else hope to see yall get in

also the process for me was as follows:

they called my counselor on friday
offered me the spot as a student and a prefreshman prgram

and sent me the offical email today with enrollment info
Im yet to hear anything from financial aid

@vianca25m Hi! What major are you applying for HUMEC? Thank you.

Anyone else get in For CAS

Hear, hear… …See my previous post.

To the students who already got off the waitlist,

Are any of you guys international (non-US citizens or permanent residency)? Thank you…

Good luck to all of you deserving hopefuls here- there may be more spots opening up, even late summer spots. Remember, each one of us has committed somewhere, and that spot will be freed up at some point IF we accept elsewhere. I bet there are lots of students who put down deposits at multiple colleges, unable to choose immediately.
I only committed to one- it had an $800 deposit. Someone on that school’s waitlist will be happy if my spot gets opened up. For lower priced deposits, I wonder if some people with financial means hold up 2 or 3 spots, due to indecision and hope for getting off a waitlist. I am being nominated off waitlist, not admitted currently.

CALS admissions wrote to my counselor today. The counselor forwarded the email to me. My counselor said she has never been contacted by a college in this manner before with a request that she reach out to a student about the opportunity to come off waitlist. Here is the counselor’s message from Cornell:
Dear xxx ,
Greetings from Cornell University. I hope all is going well with you.
I wanted to let you know that I sent xxx the following email about the waiting list today. Given that we are finalizing the selection of the Class of 2018 soon, I would appreciate if you could reach out to this student about this opportunity.

Many thanks for any help you could provide!

Sincerely,
xxx xxx ‘xx

So as of right now, is it only @FiringSquad who actually got that email?

Is there any more information on the 2018 enrollment for CAS??

Just got into Cornell CAS for the spring!!! They did say in the email that “we have enrolled our entire class for the fall 2018 semester, and do not anticipate going to the waitlist for fall.”

@boogiedad - not sure why you think I am discouraging students from staying on the WL. Anyone who is a bit logical can figure out Fall 2018 is closed for CAS. Again, each college within Cornell has its own admission policy, they are not going move openings from one college to another.

Yes, they specifically said in my offer of admission that they have filled class for the fall. Unfortunately, I don’t think that they would be lying to the hundreds of applicants placed on the waitlist.

Applicant numbers/yield are higher across the board this year. I was also waitlisted at the University of Virginia, which typically takes 100+ applicants off the waitlist every year, and they were not able to offer a single student admission from the waitlist.
