Cornell University Waitlist Class of 2022

@AmeliaProbst which school congrats

@AmeliaProbst Congrats! Which college did you apply?

@macnchz Have you heard back yet? I’m so anxious waiting right now, I’m hoping they get back sometime this afternoon

@kidpapu I am also anxiously waiting for the next step. I replied YES, I want to be considered by the Selection Committee for Fall 2018. I received this reply:

Dear …mac,
Thank you for your response. We would be delighted to nominate you for admission off the waiting list. You should hear official word about the Selection Committee’s decision within a week.
Please do not hesitate to contact our office if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
The CALS Admissions Team
College of Agriculture and Life Sciences
Cornell University

they said we can contact the office with any questions- one of us should call!

Can someone who hasn’t called earlier pleaassee call the Arts and Sciences admissions about Fall 2018 waitlists? I know we will receive a reply in a few weeks anyway, but in case they are willing to give a direct answer, it is better.

@oldfort called them yesterday…they gave a very vague answer that basically doesn’t tell us anything:

Here is her quote: "I called the admission office. Stated who I was and asked few questions. This was her response. The person I spoke with was not a student.

I asked if Fall 2018 was closed. The person said adcoms are going over some applications now. I then said, “It appears there are people who are offered spring 2019 admission.” She said, “yes, there were few we offered to.” I said, “In the letter you said Fall 2018 was closed, is that the case.” She said, “We are reviewing applications now. ALL applicants will find out in 1-2 weeks.”

She was vague about Fall 2018. I felt like one of those reporters asking white house communication director questions."

@intlnavigator @boogiedad what do you think this means?

Well @boogiedad the math does in fact point to many 2018 admits, BUT do you have any idea about these two questions?

1)Why would they release everyone in mid-May when for their entire history they always held some waitlist people up until June-July. This will be the first year when they just release everyone, and previously this happened ONLY when they overenrolled.

2)If they will accept people next week, their email was a blatant lie and the entire CC and reddit community will immediately know about that. Do you think such a big university could make such a shameful mistake and basically lie to its applicants?

Those of you who received Emails from CALS asking if you would accept 2018 admissions… did you state in your LOCI that would would definetly take the spot if offered?

@grundeis :

  1. Last year, the waitlist for Fall 2018 closed on 4th June 2017 (or some date very close to that, you can check the CC thread for last year). Instead of 4th June, the adcoms plan to close the waitlist a mere 10-12 days earlier, which can simply be change of institutional policy - or a way to quickly lock in the incoming class.

  2. As I said before, it is not a lie. The wording is extremely important, and adcoms take great care in wording emails properly - as has been the case in my experience with NYU for example. They never explicitly said in the email “no one will be admitted at all from the waitlist for Fall 18” - the email was worded in a much more nuanced manner.

Again, all we can do is wait a few more weeks and find out the fate of the CAS waitlist.

Would you say if I checked off the 2019 option as well as the 2018 option, the probability of getting into the 2018 option is basically gone?

Hello. I’m very worried right now as I really wish to go to the Dyson School. Is there any news on this? Any updates? Just to make clear, I have already been waitlisted here.

I saw that post, but it basically says that if I did check off the 2019 option, I am not getting into 2018 :((

for CAS, I know at lease one decline from my school, he got both Columbia and Cornell and deposit Columbia.

Thanks @boogiedad !!! and @grundeis that’s not what I meant about ticking 2019. I’m saying perhaps they want you NOW and your sitting atop that Fall2018 pile. Look at the glass as half full, not half empty, Just Believe!

Alright thank you :)))) We will see what happens.

It’s just very fun to be on this thread with all you guys and me debating about what’s going to happen. Especially since I realize I won’t have any of these “College waitlist anticipation” moments ever after this week…

@BigApple2018 me me me, how does this work?

Kind of enjoying the debating here… anyway any new info on Human Development major or HUMEC at all???

Hope this helps, but my nephew was waitlisted at CALS. He got called this morning, apparently his email didn’t get the letter. He was offered a Fall 2018 in CALS, and had to decide by 2:30p as the AdCom staff were meeting this afternoon. He did tick off the Spring option. He told them he would accept. He also got into Michigan in December, and off the waitlist at Berkeley yesterday. So, I guess CALS was still taking kids for Fall 2018 as of this morning, but that may or may not have been due to an email that supposedly didn’t go thru.
