Vehemently put.

This is kind of ridiculous. We all know that man is motivated by self-interest; even helping others is motivated by self-interest because it makes ONESELF feel good about themselves. People don’t work for society’s benefit; self-interested people work for themselves and this does well for society. This is known as Adam Smith’s invisible hand, and it’s one of the most basic economic concepts.

Are you really telling me that a person won’t have less of an incentive to do work if the government took away 70% of his money as opposed to 20%? He could be lazy and he would get the same benefits as everyone else; there is absolutely no incentive to try to work harder than others, as there is no reward for doing so. There is certainly less incentive to work when so much of your money is going to the government.

This is exactly the kind of stuff I hear from Obama supporters that makes me think: “Democrats have got the economics all wrong.” I would be a hardcore Democrat if it weren’t for their bullsh1t economics. I am extremely socially liberal but I just can’t stand economics like this.

Elaborating on dontno’s post…maybe if black people would stop using what happened to them 50+ years ago as a crutch NOT to have to succeed in this world, they would cease being the population with the least college degrees, the highest crime rates, the lowest average income, the highest welfare rates, etc.

I think it’s wrong to to wrong snub a black person for being black. I think it’s wrong to have a certain mindset everytime you talk to one. But statistics are statistics.

If I made a post on this board and said “Did you guys all know that white men are number one for embezzling?” Everyone would go “Yeah…makes sense” or “Of course.”

If I said “Black people are number one for violent crime.” Everyone would call me racist. Just because they’re black they can’t have any sorts of negative statistics associated with them?

High crime - Black areas
Low Crime - White areas

Why is that racist? It’s not.

All hail Mother Russia. There, everyone has the least college degrees, the highest crime rates, the lowest average incomes, and the highest welfare rates.
(Nota Bene: I am referring to the Former Soviet Union, not to modern-day Russia).

Obama '08!

Hillary '08 people!!! Come on!
;)

I wanted Hillary in the primaries, but Obama and her agree on virtually every issue so the choice is simple.

I do agree with that lopo, but, in my opinion, Hillary is the safer choice, especially in terms of her Israel policies (which I care about very much). Obama seems to be supportive of Israel, but it’s best to be wary, since we do not truly know where he stands on many issues. But Obama vs. McCain? OOOOBBBBBAAAAAAAAAAMMMMMMMAAAAAAAA!

u guyz = teh racist

me = teh best president eber

seriously

edit: wats a baung?

I’m pretty sure the consensus here is that Clinton would be the best president.

Sorry I have to respond again.

By the way I don’t go to Cornell, I turned it down (along with Columbia, NYU and Rutgers) to go to Penn, and last I checked we’re a bit more selective than you.

I’m willing to bet my SAT scores were higher than yours

No they probably are. The test is clearly culturally biased and I wasn’t able to afford free test prep available from my high school. And I could never find time to study because I was too busy sitting on my front lawn yelling at cars passing by. But that’s not the biggest reason. The biggest reason is the lowered expectations all my teachers had for me because I’m not 6 foot tall. They never actually said anything explicit, but I could just tell they didn’t believe in me! So, as you can see, it’s not my fault.

Oh and as far as writing, I didn’t take the SAT Writing section, but I did take a writing section on the GRE. I scored at or better than 95% of test takers, a population far more academically inclined than those taking the SAT. But stats don’t matter, they’re racist!!!

you act like white privilege (and their disdain for Blacks)

Right in the middle of a big paragraph about making faulty and overarching generalizations!

We all know statistics and the media can be manipulated and they usually are in respect to race in society.

You’re serious? If anything, the LIBERAL media panders to blacks. If anything, the media and elite universities tend to squash incendiary statistics like the ones provided above. The liberal media lives in fear of racism outcries like this gem from Barack Obama (and I quote: “We know what kind of campaign they’re going to run. They’re going to try to make you afraid. They’re going to try to make you afraid of me. He’s young and inexperienced and he’s got a funny name. And did I mention he’s black?”). How about Don Imus, who I admit made an off color and racist joke, losing his job, but black celebrities can mock “white boys” and no one bats an eye.

Look racism in any form is despicable and shouldn’t be advocated nor tolerated. But you must kidding if you believe the media, besides Fox News, is biased against blacks.

Well said. Most CNN anchors I saw were either blacks, Asians, or Hispanics.

"Never before has a candidate had to walk such a straight line as Obama has because the media and people like you are ready to pounce on his every single move and take anything he’s quoted as saying and run with it. "

Umm…how about Hillary Clinton? Are you really THAT deluded? The woman was attacked for bringing up RFK’s assasination.

s.dot - you are just another WAY deluded Obama supporter. I cannot wait to see YOUR face when Obama loses this election. Hillary would have blown McCain out of the water…but I guess no one cares about that. Now we get to sit here and watch Obama destroy himself.

He’s falling in almost every state poll, his 9 pt “bounce” from his trip over seas has already shrunk - he’s tied with McCain in Gallup Polling.

A poll today has Obama losing to McCain by 5 points in Florida - and they’re quick to remind everyone that Obama spent $15 million in Florida this month - McCain spent $0. Money won’t help the idiot get elected.

Mccain graduated 894/899 in college… and you’re calling Obama an idiot?

[Rational Discovery: Learn about McCain: College GPA](Rational Discovery: Learn about McCain: College GPA)

Gosh, this is an amusing thread to observe.

Even my friend, who is conservative, is kind of forced to accept McCain, even though he hated him before this election. He thinks that even though McCain is senile, can’t think for himself, and is old, his advisers will at least guide him towards conservative policies, while Obama will certainly just follow a liberal policy.

And that’s why I like Obama more than McCain… the LIBERAL POLICY.
Who needs more conservative retrogression?

Here you are…

A short video putting together quite a few clips of Obama’s people cheating in the Caucuses.

This is kind of ridiculous. We all know that man is motivated by self-interest;

Only a primitive society such as our own defines “self interest” as only extending as far as one’s physical self and perhaps immediate family.

A more evolved society - technologically, economically, spiritually, and politically - would understand that one’s self interest extends as far as all of life.

Being as primitive as we are, we have no recourse but to rely on government redistribution to account for this disparity between perceived self interest (what you speak of) and actual self interest (meaning stewarding the well being of all life, human, plant and animal).

This principle is not ridiculous. It’s been at the heart of human spirituality since it began and is slowly being discovered on the forefront of science today.

Dontno -

I don’t have a clue what your OJ comment meant.

But it’s so easy to blame this for all the troubles of black America. It’s not the government telling them to take drugs, who father children from multiple women, or internalize the values of rap music (which I happen to like ironically).

50 years is nothing in the scheme of cultural evolution. You don’t just sign laws and suddenly eradicate centuries of oppression and subjugation. Whether black leaders or white leaders (in actuality both) caused the problem, it’s here.

The Native Americans were forced to live in a society that stood in sharp contrast to the values that had dictated their societies for about 10,000 years. It’s only been about 100 years since that genocide ended.

The African Americans are bringing it together, but it’s not blaming teachers or governments. It’s blaming centuries of civlization. You’re trying to play a conventional liberal attack on “victimhood”. That’s not it at all. But the reality is that these cultures need help that cannot be provided by your prescription of pure market forces. Even corporations depend on government handouts to survive.
