Cornell's opinion on First Quarter Grades?!

I don’t think they need it. They might ask for it if you’re borderline (I honestly don’t know if they asked my GC for them and never thought to clarify) but it doesn’t seem like midterm grades are a big deal for Cornell. Obviously, it’s better if they’re good because you don’t really want to give them a reason to say no to you, but if by bad you mean a couple of B’s or whatnot, it shouldn’t be a big deal.

They are never explicitly required on the website, but people (especially in CoE) have been asked for their first quarter grades before, so YMMV. Sorry if it sounds like I’m contradicting something I posted on another thread–I thought about it for awhile and I know Cornell doesn’t seem to weigh midyear reports very heavily, so it would make sense that mid-semester grades are treated the same way.

Ultimately, it depends on your application and the college you’re applying to. If you seem like a sure admit or vice versa, it probably won’t matter too much.

Best of luck!
