Corona del Mar High School

Anyone ever heard of Corona del Mar High School in Newport Beach California?
If so do you consider it to have a good reputation?

anyone???

sorry but no

is this in the heart of the ghetto?

actually, no why.

Very few HS have a nationwide rep.

it’s a very fine, (and somewhat rich) school. One of the top 100 in the state, according to API scores, but easily outranked by others in The OC.

Newport Beach is hardly anyone’s ghetto. It’s one of the most affluent cities in Orange County.

According to 2000 census data, the median housing price is $708k and median household income is $83k.

The hs has a very high graduation rate with 89% of its students being UC/CSU eligible. SAT stats are respectable but don’t really seem to be super high, considering the school’s demographics (90+% white, 4% asian)…

As a public school, it’s not without issues, with a number of suspensions and expulsions…

Yes, I’ve heard of the school; that’s only because my 8th grade history teacher was a graduate of the HS. Otherwise, I haven’t heard about CdMHS at all.

gspsiliconvalley, it’s no longer $708K for median house price, that was outdate, it’s more like 2 million.
According to API, it’s nothing compare to other school, but I think they have a very big endowment for a HS($5 million) and good counselors. Kids graduated from this hs, seems to all go to Ivy/East Coast or Stanford, very few UCs. You can see why because, students come from rich family.

Corona del Mar isn’t an exceptionally good high school, but many of the kids that go there are college-bound, with affluence probably one of the contributing factors.

Although it is of equal caliber academically, I think Newport Harbor High School has a bigger reputation than Corona del Mar, probably because their athletics program is better.

*edit: and no, Newport Harbor isn’t “harbor high school” from The OC.

the median house price is not 2 million lol i believe 2 years ago it was in the mid 700s

shrek2004, if you reread the message, it states 2000 not 2003 for the census.

I have. I live in Orange County and that school is not to far from where I live. Its not a particularly outstanding school. Academically, athletically… Its pretty good for schools in general, but Orange County offers many better schools.

Reputation wise, its ok. Not a school that everyone talks about being super challenging like University (Irvine) or Troy (Fullerton) and its also not a top athletic school like Newport Harbor that’s mentioned above. Overall, CDM is nice, but just not outstanding.

ive heard of that school.
