Yes, I would wear whatever disguise I could if I were to make a video going against “the party line,” as that person did.
^^^^Point taken.
Maybe it is validly some guy in Wuhan, maybe not. That said, if you watched the video, tell me what you learned that wasn’t already known, expressed, even by Chinese officials themselves?
“That said, if you watched the video, tell me what you learned that wasn’t already known, expressed, even by Chinese officials themselves?”
The disregard for human life and the crappy state of their healthcare system. Also, I could hear the desperation of a young man trapped in a country where you should be afraid it you tell the truth. Is that the same with the Chinese officials message ?
“The number of confirmed cases of the rapidly spreading coronavirus infection in mainland China has reached 5,496, health authorities said on Wednesday, a total that surpasses that of Sars, the epidemic in 2003 that killed more than 600 people worldwide.
The death toll has climbed to 131, they announced, with 840 newly confirmed cases in Hubei province.
Sars infected 5,327 people in mainland China in nine months and killed 349 people, according to the World Health Organisation (WTO).”
“Zhong Nanshan, one of China’s top respiratory diseases experts, said on Tuesday that the outbreak has yet to reach its peak and that he expected to come within a week to 10 days, adding that there should be “no massive increase afterwards”.”
I find it strange that only 10 people from the state of New York have been tested for the virus (7 negative and 3 still pending). It looks like there are 38 flights landing at JFK every day which originated in Wuhan.
10 people tested just seems really low, but maybe that’s good news.
@1benice I believe you about needing to hide but there’s something that bugs me about this particular one. 1- if it was important to hide your identity, it seems like you would want to scramble the video more. He’s still pretty recognizable. You’d want to voice scramble a bit too.
Then there’s the PayPal. True, he could have it redirected somewhere but if it’s going to his personal account - I mean that’s super easy to trace.
From Marketwatch:
The Trump administration is reportedly considering a temporary ban on all flights from China to the U.S. in response the fast-spreading coronavirus outbreak.
CNBC reported late Tuesday that White House officials reportedly held a conference call with airline officials Tuesday and said a suspension of all China-U.S. flights is on the table as an option. CNBC reported that was one of a variety of responses being considered.
Oh geez. Not going into politics… you know what I was going to say.
Well I think many people who have traveled from China in the last two weeks are likely at a stage where the disease is still possible. At many colleges and even boarding schools, there are very many children from China and many people visit the US for various reasons. I think if it’s a long burn (until symptoms appear) then it will appear in the US over the next two weeks.
The video guy doesn’t bother me one way or another. His frustration seems genuine. Though someone could easily recognize him. Didn’t watch it til the end to see the Paypal grab.
Shutting down the airports might be a little too late. I’m in favor. But I wouldn’t be, if my livelihood depended on trade.
I really hope my relative gets out of China ASAP and self-quarantines.
My sister just told me that 2 kids at Miami U in Ohio are being tested. Presumably they traveled to China recently. Not sure of the circumstances. Likely just being cautious.
Texas A&M suspends all undergrad travel to China.
@Happytimes2001 - unless there were some cousin marriages going on, you should have 8 great-grandparents. ?
Sorry, meant I only know of four. No cousin marriages that I know of. Never know though ;0
A lot of people in China wear masks all the time because in some places, and at some times of the year, the air quality is so bad.
Looks like Miami of Ohio cancelled a basketball game because of virus concerns.
was just going to post this: https://www.10tv.com/article/ohio-health-officials-investigating-2-possible-cases-coronavirus-miami-university-2020-jan about miami ohio
Seems like an overreaction. Are they cancelling classes and other campus events?
Multiple news sources now quoting 5,974 confirmed cases (higher than previous report today) in China for a total of 6,053 worldwide.
“Authorities in China also reported the first case of the Wuhan virus in Tibet, previously the only region to have avoided the virus. The spread to Tibet despite the implementation of strict checks on travelers and closing of tourist sites will renew concerns about how easily the virus is transmitted, particularly when people are asymptomatic.” (CNN)
Australia plans to quarantine their returning citizens on Christmas Island.
