“Egypt confirmed on Friday its first coronavirus case and said the affected person was a foreigner who had been put into isolation in hospital. The health ministry said in a statement that it had immediately informed the World Health Organisation and had taken all necessary preventive measures. It did not give the nationality of the affected person or any other details.WHO Egypt said on Twitter the person was carrying the virus, but had not shown any symptoms and was in a stable condition. The Egypt case would be the first on the African continent. Experts and African leaders have expressed concern that should the virus spread there, it might wreak havoc among less developed countries with fewer health resources.”

WHO: Don’t Politicize Virus Outbreak

THE WORLD HEALTH Organization on Friday advised countries like the U.S. and China to put aside politics as they respond to the coronavirus outbreak.

“This is very obviously a tense political environment because of the economic issues and because of everything else,” said Mike Ryan, the executive director of WHO’s health emergencies program. “Please, let our scientists get on. Let our public health professionals get on. Let them work together, and we find answers to this.” Ryan advised “all of us” to “avoid politicizing the situation right now.”

His comments come after White House advisor Larry Kudlow said publicly the Trump administration was “quite disappointed” with China’s response to the outbreak…

Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar told CNN on Friday that some U.S. scientists will be on a WHO team that will deploy to China.

"The Chinese capital Beijing on Friday imposed a 14-day self-quarantine on people returning to the city from holidays to prevent the spread of the new coronavirus, and threatened to punish those who failed to comply.

It was not immediately clear how the restriction, relayed by the official Beijing Daily newspaper, would be enforced, or whether it would apply to non-residents of Beijing or foreigners arriving from abroad." (swissinfo.ch)

WHO team headed to China as coronavirus cases climb

"A team of international disease experts led by the World Health Organization (WHO) will arrive in China as early as this weekend to study the coronavirus, the agency said Friday.

But it’s unclear if the representatives of U.S. agencies will be among the team members.

WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said the team will consist of 12 international and WHO experts, as well as a similar number of national expert counterparts from China." (The Hill)

The production team for the Olympics is likely already in Japan preparing…they typically spend at least six months prior to the start of the Olympics getting the production end for TV ready. They need to interface with the production done here in CT as well. It’s a huge job.

I hope this virus doesn’t interfere with this.

If flu is any indication of how respiratory diseases hit smokers versus non-smokers, yes, smokers appear to be at a greater risk:

Japanese man returns from Hawaii positive for virus

https://www.khon2.com/local-news/japanese-man-tested-positive-for-coronavirus-after-returning-from-trip-to-hawaii/

Time to shop for airfare to Maui or Oahu!

Time to book our cruise around the Hawaiian islands for next January!

I wouldn’t be surprised if a divorce or two doesn’t follow this quarantine. Can you imagine being stuck in an extremely tiny cabin with no windows for weeks on end with another human being, especially if you took the cruise to help a shaky union?

Smokers are always at higher risk when infected with respiratory viruses.

He started having symptoms 6 days after he arrived in Hawaii. There’s a good chance he was already infected. Where was he before coming to Hawaii? I hope he wasn’t too active visiting many people in Hawaii spreading the virus.

Good thing he did not stay in the same condo complex with us.!

I am positive he was already infected when he arrived to HI.

Not this couple!

Air pollution and nutrition status may also play a role in the morbidity rates.

I was actually talking about the ship where people weren’t allowed to leave their rooms. I would go absolutely nuts if I was confined to a tiny interior room with no windows. You’d hear about me on the news or something.

^Help is on the way! The US is evacuating American citizens and families from the cruise ship in Japan.

Yep. When I read that linked article that showed the size of the interior rooms along with a map of the boat I pictured being in one of those rooms for two weeks, got panicky and started plotting my theoretical escape route. It may or may not have involved swimming to freedom.

We like cruises and are still planning on going on one in a few weeks.

I’d NEVER, EVER take an inside cabin. Just the thought causes me to panic.
