2 new deaths in Iran for a total of 4 in 24 hours. 18 cases now confirmed in past 24 hours and no doubt will rise there as well since it seems it has been present in Iran awhile before the government clued in. Already one sick in Lebanon and 1 in Canada from recent visits to Iran.
2 new countries with cases - Israel (person evacuated from Diamond Princess) and Lebanon (person had come from Iran).
World Health Organization-led team will travel to Wuhan tomorrow.
Iran says coronavirus has spread to several cities
“The spread of the coronavirus started in Qom and has reached other cities in the country like Tehran, Babol, Arak, Isfahan, Rasht and other cities due to people traveling. There is a possibility that it exists in all cities across the country,” (CNN quoting an Iranian Ministry of Health official)
Interesting read - a summary of high tech and low tech techniques used in China for lockdown and monitoring. Hard to fathom this working effectively in most other countries.
"The United Arab Emirates said on Friday it had registered two new coronavirus cases, bringing the total number of people diagnosed with the virus in the Gulf Arab state to 11.
The new cases in the UAE were detected in a 34-year-old Filipino national and a 39-year-old Bangladeshi national who had contact with a Chinese national who had been diagnosed with the virus" (Reuters)
Italy Reports Six New Cases in First Local Transmission
Italy’s Lombardy region reported six new coronavirus cases Friday, including the country’s first locally transmitted infections. There are now nine total cases in the country.
The new cases were found in the small towns of Castiglione d’Adda and Codogno… the infected include a 38-year-old man, his wife and a close friend. The man, who is in intensive care, had come into contact with a person that had returned from China Jan. 21. Local authorities haven’t yet confirmed how the three other people had been infected. As many as 150 people who had contacts with the 38-year-old man are being tested and the region is advising some 20,000 inhabitants of Castiglione d’Adda and Codogno to stay indoors and avoid social contacts “on a precautionary basis.”
Italy’s health ministry announced that all people who have been in close contact with the new cases will be forced into quarantine, and all returnees from risk areas of China will be actively monitored." (Bloomberg)
Drank water at the gym this morning, and some went down “the wrong way”. While I was coughing, an old man said to me, “did you go to a Chinese restaurant recently?”
If it is just a matter of hand washing, it doesn’t sound so bad. I had an impression it was more direct as in virus spreads while you are sitting on the pot.
China is one of those places where they tell you to boil the tap water before drinking it. I.e. the tap water treatment there is not trusted. So if you are washing your hands or dishes etc. in the tap water…
Many toilets in China are ones that you squat over. But many of them do not flush very effectively. Toilet paper, though invented in China, may not be provided (i.e. bring your own).
The CDC will, effective today, track confirmed cases of novel coronavirus in the US in two separate groups:
those repatriated by the US State Dept.
those identified by the US public health network.

His wife and a friend of his also tested positive for the virus. Three patients at the hospital in Codogno where he went with flu-like symptoms on February 18 also have infections, as do five nurses and doctors. Another three people, who frequented the same cafe in the Lombardy region, also tested positive Friday…the mayor of Codogno ordered schools, public buildings, restaurants and coffee shops closed. The Italian health ministry ordered anyone who came into direct contact with the first three people who tested positive to be quarantined for 14 days. About 150 people, including medical personnel, were in isolation undergoing tests. " (AP)
The article goes on to talk about several other towns in the area having connections to those infected closing schools and other businesses and public offices as well. It also states that it is near impossible to purchase face masks in Italy as the supply has been sold out.
Interesting about the Naval Academy. Wondering what the connection would be in addition to symptoms because what are symptoms unique to Covid-19 that aren’t found in other illnesses?
So did I, but held it until now, given the reception my contributions on that issue got. Guess cream’s not the only thing that eventually rises.
Not saying that using a toilet in a western, code compliant toilet might be a danger. Wash your hands and open the door with a paper towel on the way out, because the last person to use it might not have bothered with much beyond using the toilet.
I do though, think it’s still up in the air, whether or not open sewage or a non-performing plumbing vent system, might be a route for transmission. An airborne one.

@Artist2233 One positive media aspect is it took Harry and Megan off the spotlight for a while. I find the Royal family interesting, but I was tired of seeing them on the news every night.
I meet with a lot of clients this time of year. I also currently have an annoying cough from allergies. I keep telling people I’m not sick, and they look relieved.
