But there is no shortage now, so some of us are stocking up (not hoarding) so we don’t have to worry about it if things get worse in the fall and there are shut downs - or we want to try and be good citizens and not go to the grocery store if/when things get bad in the fall. I am in New England so know the drill. Risk is very low right now, but who knows what the fall will bring…so am keeping well stocked, but not cleaning out shelves so there is enough for others too
I’m not saying don’t buy some extras.
Just seems like I’m starting to see some extremism rear it’s ugly head again (even in real life).
I’m only doing curbside pickup. I love shopping this way! I dreaded the day I’d have to go to the market - which was normally when there was barely a morsel to eat in my house. I don’t miss going into grocery stores at all.
I don’t know of anyone who “stocks up” at the mall.
.
I’m not “leisurely walking around the mall.” In fact, I can’t remember the last time I went inside a retail establishment that was not a grocery store. I’m also not “stocking up” but it’s pretty hard to keep six people fed, three of whom are teenage boys and a 22 y/o young man, without having to visit multiple stores. I also have a spouse with certain dietary restrictions. Red meat and pork are still in short supply where I live. In the beginning, I tried to keep store visits to every 10-14 days. Stores were limiting people to only “one” of a package of chicken or a package of steak, etc. While I understand this, it makes it difficult for larger families to get enough food without having to go back to the store again. The stores by me do not offer curbside pickup (even Sams, who offers online ordering requires you to enter the store to pick up orders) and getting a delivery time slot is near impossible.
Fortunately where I live numbers/percentages have been consistently going down and IME, there is 99% compliance with wearing masks inside retail in my area. Perhaps some would be appalled that I shopped in three different grocery stores this week, but after not having been to the store in over three weeks, we were down to bare minimums and none of the stores sells, or had in stock, what we wanted/needed. It is however, somewhat of a catch-22, when you are trying to limit store runs, not “stock up,” have limited quantities allowed, yet feeding six people 2-3 meals every single day. It takes a lot of planning, strategy and trying to shop in off-hours.
I suppose I just stocked up on shipping tape. I used the last of ours mailing an anniversary gift to one of our kids and asked at the post office if they had any they sold. I was told they are completely out and word on the street was many stores were too. Then they told me one local store where they thought we should be able to find some. I went there and bought a large one instead of the smaller size we usually keep on hand.
I guess there are a lot more things being shipped out now?
Otherwise at the store Wednesday I’ll admit to buying more TP even though we shouldn’t need it before I go shopping again in three weeks. One just never knows. I have more tissues too though that’s mainly for DIL who is staying with us, because she has allergies she’s dealing with. I don’t want to run out.
I also make sure I have plenty of dishwasher pods and bath soap/shampoo. To me, those are essentials! I can live without many other things and our farm provides food, esp in summer and fall. It’s fresh green pea season now. Those are incredibly delicious just boiled for 90 seconds (blanching) and eating immediately. There are no peas available in a grocery store that can match their homegrown taste.
We are not stocking up on anything.
I ordered six months contact lens!
Grocery shopping 1x a week is working well for us empty nesters.
Maryland’s numbers are down again today. Positivity rate is down another 0.02%. Hospitalizations ate down another 12. I know at some point they’ll be a day with a blip, possibly tomorrow, but I’m enjoying being able to still report positive numbers. Woohoo.
I also have no problem with anyone stocking up on anything they feel is essential. Better than having everyone wishing they had if things go awry. There’s a lot more in stock now, and if things go awry, shopping could be more dangerous later.
I’m glad to live in an area that’s very high mask wearing. Either that or those who don’t go to different areas than I do - which is also fine by me.
@4kids4us - I hear you about the restrictions on buying and having a large family with teen boys. We order meat online; would that work for you?
@mom60 - if you still need napkins, PM me and I can send you some; I finally found some at a party store.
Shipping tape hard to find? Maybe so many people are ordering on line that there is a low supply?
We ordered 2 meals tonight from the caterer that we used for a big party a few years ago. Very reasonable priced and is very nearby. Looking forward to it
Fresh peas are great. Yes, no store product can come close. I’m hoping to start getting some squash and zucchini in the next day or so. It is great having a garden to pull things from in a pandemic. Covid-victory-garden.
Finally found some old medical records (from pregnancy 20 years ago) and my blood type is A+. Kind of bummed, was hoping to be O.

Made a Costco run this morning, and they had a big stock of Chlorox wipes; lots of TP and PT. I bought a pack of wipes even though I do not use them much. I know that in a few weeks one or both kids will reach out with a question, “hey parents, do you know where I can get…” yeah. We know.
LOL, glad we don’t have randoms with opinions in charge of hospitals? All that makes a hospital bed into an ICU bed is the plugs, right? And you just need a nurse observing? OMG. You really should let those nurses know that the job is observational, I wonder who does the actual work then?
So, my state (LA) revamped it’s data and removed about 1500 names that were duplicates for positive tests, but the number of positives for today and yesterday was also about 1500, so today looks like we had our best day ever, with 0 % increase, lol.
I am too OCD to like this numbers chaos! But I’m glad they fixed it and it didn’t reveal anything tragic.
Geez, one comment does not apply to all people! Did I ever say “everyone on this CC thread is wandering the mall?” Did I indicate you should not feed your family in the present time?!
Adios, COVID thread.
Also, for you data junkies - there is still a larger percentage of females that test positive (56% of total) to males (41% of total), but for deaths 47% are female and 53% are male.
African Americans are 53.2% of deaths, whites 48.9%. The first week they had compiled that data, the AA deaths were a bit more than 70%, so that’s a big improvement, although it’s still not good (AA is about 32% of total population).
The leading comorbidity is hypertension, found in 59% of deaths. It had been as high as 67%.
And if anyone is as annoyed as I am (looking for my kids and DH’s blood types) here’s an article describing how difficult it is to find it!

It is more like the data collected by the rings (e.g. heart rate, breathing rate, sleeping time, body temperature, etc.) may be analyzed in a way that can warn the wearer of impending sickness before symptoms become obvious in other ways.
The rings were originally marketed as sleep and activity trackers: https://ouraring.com/ . Note that other fitness trackers also collect similar data (but not necessarily exactly the same things), so they could also theoretically be used in a similar manner. However, a ring would be less in the way than a watch or band for someone who does not want to wear a watch or band, or already wears things on both wrists.
