Coronavirus: What are You doing ( if anything) to prepare/ What are you personally observing?

As @Marilyn predicted, my bus was EMPTY. 10 or so riders. There were no cars on the road either. I am scheduled to attend a big event at a local university, so far, nothing got canceled.

Our AG had been interviewed by CNBC. He said the office will be busting price gougers bigly. Go Bob!

@HImom I am sorry for your loss. This is a very difficult situation for you with an upcoming funeral and health issues. I also was going to post earlier about limiting to immediate family and holding a the big lavish public memorial at a later time?

My dad’s best friend is a longtime family-business funeral director. My dad gave us wishes for his funeral. After he died, the friend had a heart to heart with us and said that his career had taught him that “funerals are for the living”. I know that not everyone shares that perspective, and that it is a very complex issue involving deep emotions, religion and spirituality, and more. Please know that my thoughts and condolences are with you.

@HImom, under the circumstances you may have to find a way to physically isolate yourself, mother, and other susceptible mourners. Either with “bodyguards” or tables blocking access. The Aloha Spirit will just have to be suspended a bit.

Understood that there haven’t been diagnosed cases in Hawaii. But are people aware that the Grand Princess visited Hawaii in between the cruise with the infected passenger who subsequently died, and the current status off the coast of San Francisco? Crew members and current passengers have been identified for testing.

Saw this tweet and it made me laugh:

“God bless the hundreds of people doomsday prepping at Costco right now and still eating the little food samples sitting out for everyone to touch”

Despite Coronavirus concerns, the LA Marathon will still be run this Sunday, 3/8. I know a few people who are competing and they are not worried. It will be interesting to see how many come out to watch but this is a popular event on what looks to be a nice day (65, partly sunny) so may be that only a few stay away.

The germaphobes would love a marathon! All the spitting, blowing snot and other bodily functions in full display!

These are the disinfectants you can use against coronavirus

The US Environmental Protection Agency is arming consumers with a list of disinfectants that people can use to protect themselves from the novel coronavirus.

The federal agency released a five-page list of chemicals and products Thursday that it says are strong enough to ward off “harder-to-kill” viruses than SARS-CoV-2.

409 is not on the list? I may need to buy something new…

"Costco reported stronger sales than analysts were expecting Thursday, thanks, in part, to a boost the company received from consumers stocking up at its stores to prepare for a more widespread outbreak of a new coronavirus.

“February sales benefited from an uptick in consumer demand in the fourth week of the reporting period,” the company said. “We attribute this to concerns over the coronavirus.”

Costco said the impact boosted its monthly same-store sales for February by roughly 3%. For the month ended March 1, same-store sales were up 12.1%." (CNBC)

I went to Wally World today as part of our post trip restocking. They were less crowded than usual and it was obvious folks had been there before buying some of the hot items - though there were still wipes and a few other things to be had if one wanted them. They weren’t even remotely out of things I wanted (mostly food items like nuts and teas).

When I was checking out remarking how quiet the store was the cashier told me crowds seemed to come in spurts. Then she went on to say they were told they weren’t getting any more hand sanitizer, wipes, and similar items - plus - they were told they weren’t guaranteed from their supplier to get anything that was made in China.

It definitely seems to be having an effect at least at the bigger chain stores even without any known cases nearby. I could have bought anything at our local grocery store a couple of days ago. I’m not sure if folks have ventured out to the smaller local stores yet. I don’t need anything else personally.

On a different note, talking with a nurse at a nearby hospital and she mentioned folks have been stealing masks and hand sanitizer from there too. To me, that’s incredibly irritating. Those putting their lives on the front line with ALL diseases, illnesses, and bacteria/viruses shouldn’t be stolen from. What in the world are people thinking??? Do they want to go there and catch something from their health care providers because the hospital is out of necessities due to theft?

was at a small conference today (about 100 people?) . No one shook hands. Everyone did the elbow thing. lots of hand sanitizer was available. 3 big trade shows that were to be in SF in April and May have all been cancelled. I had already booked tickets. My company is going to have to pay regardless :(. D17’s school cancelled all school sponsored trips for SB

It’s been said before but I really don’t get the elbow thing at all.

Would you go to a Broadway show?

Who are stealing them? Must be insiders. No one else has an easy access.

Depends on how badly one wants. I am still flying since there are things I badly want to get done.

Yes, I would. As a matter of fact, I just attended a men’s basketball game on Saturday at UCLA in Pauley Pavilion with 11,000+ screaming fans. I did make sure to visit the restroom in a different campus building before the game because restrooms at any sporting event get gross so quickly.

If I had tickets, I would go to a Broadway show.

I have a conference in Texas in July. I’m thinking of not making those reservations.

Hoping this doesn’t interfere with graduations…so many folks travel…and airports and planes will likely be crowded. Never mind that the graduations themselves are big events.

A little worried about a family wedding where the other family is traveling from India…in June.

Hoping this all settles down.

Yes, we have the tickets for next Saturday. My son lives in NY so every month my husband and I drive down from Boston. No planes or trains involved, but we do stay at a hotel.

If you and your husband are in good health, I’d say go for it. Wash your hands a lot.

Patients or their families. They have sanitizer/masks in the rooms where they are. They get left alone after their visit before they leave (to dress, etc). Then when the nurse or doctor comes in for the next patient they find no sanitizer in the machine to use.

With the masks they were out for “sick” patients to take and use. A supply used to last quite a while. It got cleaned out at least twice. No more people were using them than normal.

I assume they’ve changed procedures now though we didn’t discuss that. I also didn’t ask for specifics as to how many times it happened. I just listened (and expressed my disgust) while she talked about it.

I have tickets for Indian Wells next weekend. Does intense sun on the seats and other surfaces kill the virus? I hope so. I look forward to this tennis tournament every year.
