I ordered a larger Purell from Walmart. It said to arrive by Mar 12, but I got notification that it was delivered today. I checked my mail box to receive a letter from Walmart (their provider) to say there is a delay to my order, yada yada, and hope you will provide positive feedback. Nothing about when they are going to ship out my order. Meanwhile they have taken my money. Walmart refunded my money, but no Purell.
@HImom I believe the CDC has recommended that elderly and folks with health concerns avoid large gatherings. Perhaps your extended family of MDs should read those suggestions. I would worry more about 1000 people than the baby shower you didn’t attend…and I would mention that to your extended family as well.
I know it’s a difficult decision when multiple family members are involved in the planning…but the general heath concerns of some of you really need to be considered…in my opinion.
I have repeatedly mentioned this to my extended family and will again tomorrow when we meet again about this. Family dynamics are challenging, especially when it is a large, highly opinionated family. Printing out the CDC handout and bringing it to the meeting but am not hopeful.

distilled water. >>>
You can use RO water in your cpap. It wouldn’t be a terrible investment if this is a regular requirement, an RO unit would cost less than $200. Cheaper if you go more basic. If you live somewhere with questionable water or poor infrastructure oversight, it is no bad thing.
@sybylla we actually looked into RO after there was a uranium spill in Detroit. We decided to go the bulk bottled water route (costco water delivery) because we’d need a countertop RO and we just dont have room for that much bulk.
As of now, I’ll only need the APAP machine through the rest of my pregnancy (apnea was induced by pregnancy) so I’m holding off on a more permanent solution until I know that I’ll need one more long term. Fingers crossed that I won’t need it much longer…

My mom just got back from Florida last night. Flew into DTW (from Orlando? not sure) and said that she was shocked there was no real screening or anything. Her bag got pulled aside and they checked her lysol wipes for explosives ??♀️. Travelers didn’t seem to be taking extra precautions either.
She felt bad for the TSA agents and airplane attendants. In colorful language, she said they don’t get paid enough for how exposed they are.
Note - she’s always someone who brings sanitizing wipes and hand sanitizer. Her mom was a nurse and it was pretty beaten into her as a kid how important cleanliness was but she’s never been a prepper or anything. Just more cautious than the average American.
Most bottled water/water bulk bottles IS ro as long as it isn’t mineral water. You might be fine with just that.
@HImom any chance that you can have the large gathering at a later date this summer or fall vs cancelling? Since it sounds like a very important person in your world has passed. That 1000 people would gather for them is a testament to their standing.
Thanks to all who have expressed concerns. We really need to just get closure as there are other important extended family events on the calendar, including two weddings. My dad was an amazing man who touched many lives in his 95 years. We also have a large family and in HI, people come who are close to or work with someone whose family member died.
We will try to be as mindful and careful as possible. It’s really not up to me and I am just one of the smaller pieces in this event.
@himom God bless you and your dad.
We cancelled D20 Spring Break trip to Spain. Other than that, pretty much life as usual here in the Mitten. Grocery stores are not crazy and shelves are full.
We bought a couple weeks worth of dry and canned goods and just a pack extra of tp.
We made sure meds are okay…all thing we should have anyway for winter here.
I am worried about D senior activities…prom, honors night, graduation. I would hate for her miss all that after working so hard for 12 years.
Watching local news. A local elementary school class was given this (or an equivalent thereof) to play with:

Amusing and amazing. And very educational for the kiddos and their parents.
Sorry if this is a hijack but my ability to create a new post is gone and would like to add/ask about broader issues.
We have many school children who rely on free breakfast/lunch at schools for their nutrition. Our PTO has mobilized to get volunteers ready to launch a ‘meals on wheels’ program for those families in case the schools close. Working with local board of health to ensure we aren’t doing more harm than good. Fundraising (pledges at this point) underway to buy the food and organize delivery. Our local Food Bank happens to live I. Our community so she has been super helpful.
Likewise for our elderly. In our community we have ‘street captains’ who know who the more vulnerable residents are on the street. Each street has an email list (usually for less important thinks like block parties) to again mobilize a volunteer schedule to ensure those folks have food, medicine, rides to doctor in case there is a sudden lock-down. We talked to all of them in my street this week to see how aware they were of current events and make sure someone has their contact (and their family member’s) info. We have two senior centers in our community and we have been in touch with their leadership so they know they can reach out to us in case they have a sudden need (delivery of stuff to them is our biggest concern- many of their residents are low income and/or have zero family members nearby).
We have a large block of apartment building filled with older (but independent) residents. Those locations worry me the most. The apartment buildings mgmt hasn’t even thought about what to do if there is an outbreak.
Fortunately my community has a great communications infrastructure in place to ensure no social event is missed by a single person. This is proving to be handy right now. There are no reported cases in my state (so far) but we choose to be prepared and definitely cannot depend on our local government to do anything right. We citizens need to step up and volunteer to take a role, give $, or whatever to protect our vulnerable neighbors. I would say one-third of our residents fall in the vulnerable category and we don’t want starving children (or financially wiped out families) or frightened elderly if we can prevent it.
Moderators, apologies if this is a hijack or in the wrong place. My ‘+’ is not showing.
Not sure. If I remember correctly, the parents were ok although they traveled together. That’s why I remembered the incident. kinda reversal.
Ok don’t spray. Instead, you could take them out 9 days sooner than you need and “quarantine” them. They suspect transmissions happened through paper forms passengers filled out in Diamond cruise.
I think this article belongs here.

I am still thinking about canned food. Why do we need to stock them? Is it because you may not be able to go out to shop? Or delivery is not available? Or they may be out of stock?
Spraying with alcohol is dangerous, especially on (or near) combustible materials. Don’t do it!
It is in case if you should be quarantined in your house/apartment. In my case, if they should decide to quarantine my apartment building because someone has the virus, then no one could really come in or out of my building (like a cruise ship).
My mother is living in a 50+ adult community. I am concerned what would happen if they should quarantine the whole community due to an outbreak. She is 85 and we may not be able to get to her.
As I said, take them out 9 days earlier than you need and keep them “isolated”. Spraying was a manner of speaking, to say be aware of the virus lurking on paper. People do lick their fingers sometimes to turn pages. Spraying every page will get quite tiresome regardless of the danger.
What do you think we are doing when we spray hand sanitizer on our hand? Are you ok with with it because it is somewhat diluted? Then dilute before spraying.
@oldfort Are you saying no one in the building can go in or out if there’s one case in the entire building? That will be extremely inconvenient as well as it increases the chance to get quarantined.
If you’re afraid of paper books, switch to ebooks- you can borrow them from the library at home. Do go around borrowing and then destroying library books. Though if you want to borrow them 9 days early, no harm done. Bookstores have the same exact issues, btw. So many people handle the books before you buy them.
