Coronavirus: What are You doing ( if anything) to prepare/ What are you personally observing?

I am obsessively taking my temperature even though no known contact and no symptoms. It’s a stress reliever.

This made me LOL! I told DH today, we need to temperature check, twice daily - he thinks I’m mad, but you are right, it’s a stress reliever!

Well, at my mom’s CCRC, only family members allowed and you need a temp check (contact-less) and to sign in. I’m hoping they also take temps of all staff.

Just came back from our nightly walk. Bliss.

The dignitary we asked to give dad’s eulogy has just backed out (80, heart condition and at risk for COVID-19), and now my older brother is in a tailspin. We all said, “No biggie, we can have the grandkids speak.” Fortunately, they are amazing speechwriters and orators, fortunately and have spoken at large important events.

The local SUNYs (community and 4-year) announced yesterday that spring break is extended for an additional week, then they’re going online for the foreseeable future. A couple of private colleges in the region made similar announcements. Stores had been relatively quiet, although stock on some cleaning items was low in places, but last night the floodgates opened. The grocery store was full, lines were long, and carts were piled high. Signs were posted on various shelves limiting how many items people could buy. One woman had 60 rolls of toilet paper (two 24-packs and a 12-pack). They let her buy 2 packs. Carts were full of pasta, rice, and canned goods. People were calm, patient, and friendly though.

I spoke too soon yesterday that new cases seem to decline. It looks like it is still on a growing trajectory. Sorry I was hoping to calm down your anxiety. This doesn’t help.

It’s off topic. If it costs more made in USA but also people in the USA will have more money by not importing, wouldn’t they be able to afford a higher price?

I never had a big family. I don’t understand what it takes to feed a crowd. That cartful will last me a few years. Just a cupful of dry beans will last a few days. Whenever I make black eye peas on new years eve, I marble at how little I need to make a full pot. They should buy dried goods if they run out canned goods. It probably a lot healthier, too.

Maybe this will cheer you up and calm your anxiety. It is behind the paywall but headline says it all. Immediately available and already installed at 100 labs, test automation.

It’s a similar situation in MIchigan. On Tuesday the governor announced the first 2 cases of coronavirus. Last night she announced another 10 positive cases and closed all the schools in the state of Michigan until April 6th. Bam.

It’s almost surreal. We went from “no problems here!” to “shut it all down!” in about 48-72 hours.

And I think it’s a good idea - a serious response to a serious threat. Now excuse me - as clerk of Session for my church, I’m circulating a motion from our pastors to cancel all in-service worship services (and church meetings) until at least April 1st. I know a lot of our congregation will be sad, but then, a lot of our congregation are elderly, too.

Went to Walmart to get paper napkins and kitty litter. All paper products are gone, as well as bottled water. Canned tuna, he laundry detergent is gone.

Crazy times

Neighbors posted photos of our local Trader Joe’s. The shelves and freezer cases were empty! Of everything.

I have not heard much from local churches. I can’t imagine that they should hold services. I DO know that our local church lenten fish fry is cancelled for the next couple of weeks and that is sort of a local tragedy! <3 :frowning:

Our local public schools (actually all K-12 in the state) where S is a teacher were ordered to close starting Tuesday of next week until April something. I think many will close today after classes and not have class Monday. But S is going to school this morning with NO IDEA of the format, if they have to provide work, does he have to report to work, will the school year calendar be affected, etc. He works with an urban population who cannot be asked to do online work because it is not accessible for many.

I was happy to hear that one thing our school district announced last night is a plan for neighborhood pick up spots for breakfast, lunch for kids. This is so very important.

Also D2 is health professions grad student at Ohio State. They are extending spring break a week and then requiring all on campus students to return home for the rest of the year and will be having virtual learning. It floors me to think of the logistics at such a big school of thousands of not only out of town but out of state/country students and their families having to scramble to find flights or solutions to getting this done.

It’s really mind boggling. I support the measures but it’s mind boggling.

Why does every store like Home Depot to Bed, Bath and Beyound have to send me their “Covad 19” Policy? These are usually just cut and paste anyway. Will it make me feel better to know someone is wiping down something that much better now? I got like 10 of them this morning in my email. If I need light bulbs etc I am still going to get them. Probably use their Purell then mine when I get back into the car…

Doesn’t it? I may just be being gullible. It’s good to know they are wiping down.

I work for a large, multi-campus church in metro Detroit. Yesterday we announced that services and events will be cancelled through the end of the month. We will be able to “stream” services for people to watch at home. We have to take this seriously.

I just can’t deal with the hoarding. It disgusts me.

OK, help CC gurus. I stopped at CVS because the Talenti ice cream was on sale (best medicine out there!) and they happened to have some Black elderberry with zinc and vitamin C gummies. So I figured, what the heck, I’d heard this was possibly helpful, so I bought a bottle. So here’s the question: are you supposed to start eating them now, to be proactive and have the vitamin C and zinc in your system, or wait until you might have been exposed, or heaven forbid are symptomatic, and then start chewing them to hopefully ameliorate the symptoms. What is the “protocol”?

As far as I know grocery stores stay open while schools may be closed. Why the panic? What is the chance one will be quarantined at home and unable to shop groceries?
