Exactly! We went from 1 person home all day and making dinner for 2 adults and one pre teen child, to 4 people home all day, everyday, for at least 2 weeks. 3 meals a day now for 3 adults and a child. That’s alot more food. Also, S19 was supposed to leave tomorrow, so I only had larger meals prepped till then. Couple that with very untimely coincidence of our chain market having a sale (Buy 2, Get 3 free) on chicken, and Buy 1 get 1 Free on a ton of other items, people went nuts. Shelves are totally bare. But as long as they keep getting shipments in, I think it’ll be ok. Both the local chain, and the more national chain have emailed to say they will continue their online and delivery services.
police controlling crowds at local supermarket here - I guess to allow only 250 people in the building at a time - I think that was the new rule here in NJ
Nope she is Christian. Totally hoarding. If you had a year worth of TP, why would you wait inline at 6 AM in the morning to buy more??? This is not panic buying, this is something else, hoarding may not even be the right word, hoarding is like a mental thing that one can’t help themselves. This is pure selfishness with no regard for others.

I am dreading to go to the market even though I need to. I need to buy bread, and TP ![]()
College Board has shut down many testing locations but not the one my son is due to go to tomorrow. I’m on the fence about having him go. Thoughts?
@jym626 I use elderberry syrup. I take a tbs once a day preventatively, but if I get sick, that goes up to a tbs four times a day. I assume the gummies are similar. It should say on the label.
@Nhatrang. Can’t read everything now but in Indonesia my daughter used her “left” hand!
.
So in Chicago area the dollar stores have /had TP but forgot about a decent amount we bought a few weeks ago.
Went to the Jewel,Aldis, Target etc all 50 people deep. At Aldis one lady had like 15 chickens… Like what the hell… Lol…
Our Whole Foods did not have any carts this morning because they were all in use. I have upped my shopping but we were not planning on being here this coming week nor having an extra mouth in the house indefinitely so was ill prepared.
My family has decided to postpone any funeral services for my mom. Too many people would need to get on flights and don’t feel comfortable.
I work for a small firm (under 60 total employees) that has 3 offices - as of yesterday we are officially all working remotely. I went kicking and screaming (not literally, but I didn’t want to work from home) until I read this article, and immediately realized this potential virus isn’t about me. So I’m officially working from home, and it’s odd to keep my actual work schedule at home (IE: getting up, following my usual routine, including lunch break and even dressing the part). We are doing 2 daily zoom video calls with staff and many check ins with staff as well. Knock wood, no one in the firm has presented any symptoms. We have all agreed to take the self-isolation one week at a time, so we will assess next Thursday to see what the following week might look like.
My Hannaford run was around 9:30 this (Friday) morning. Parking lot 2/3 or so full. Much more picked over than the last couple times I went: pasta, canned meat, TP/paper towel, soap, disinfectant shelves all mostly bare. Plenty of peanut butter still (no thank you but so glad it’s there for those who can eat it). There were also cans of soup, vegetables, tuna to be had. Fresh meat and produce looked like they were at their usual levels. Stock clerks throughout the store trying to keep up with us locusts. Maybe four checkout lanes about 2 to 3 people deep, plus busier express lanes, when I wrapped up around 10:00 AM.
@JustaMom great story, thank you for giving the link
Got a text from a family friend this morning who works in a very large hospital in Northern Michigan. She works in social work there so is generally not part of the triage teams. However, here’s what she wrote:
We have a hospital wide code now. Code triage. So we all have to be at the hospital and available for assistance. Apparently they just had a huge influx of patients.
It goes:
Code triage standby
Code triage ED
And then the code triage.
They skipped all to code triage which means current disaster situation.
IDK what’s going on but we all have to go now and they will give us further instructions."
Lots of places around here are banding together to make sure children continue to receive breakfast and lunch. It’s very, very heartening.
So my wife wanted some lemon juice since like all the stores are out. What are people doing with it? Anyway Aldis had it but was 50 people deep at least. I have never seen this and told my wife I am not spending an hour for lemon juice.
One older lady at target had the wrong type of mask and one younger guy had the correct one and was wearing it proud, like a fashion statement.
At the dollar store one person had 10 bottles of dish soap and when she saw me looking she looked embarrassed. I just smiled. ?.
I heard the President is going to speak again or did… Agh… Now there won’t be anything left… Lol ?.
We just got a communication that we are to work remotely next week unless it is absolutely necessary to come into the office. The buildings will be open, but they want us to stay away if possible. As a leader, this is so strange for me. When we put in our remote work option/flexible work schedule about 5 months ago, it wasn’t something that management was going to generally do. With this thing, we are supposed to set the example and NOT go in, so it’s the reverse. I am not quite keeping my regular schedule (my job involves a lot of evening emails anyway) and am basically in sweats with no makeup. If I have Zoom meetings I’ll step it up a little. This is all new territory.
Nearly every US medical school has cancelled their Second Look Day for accepted students. Many (most?) have cancelled Match Day ceremonies (Match Day is March 20 this year).
I just learned that at least one med school has moved to on-line only instruction.
Med students in areas where there is community transmission are being asked to curtail their community ECs. On the wards, med students are not allowed to treat/observe coronavirus patients.
DH went to work this morning. There were some things that needed attention. He said about 25% of the folks were there I stopped at target when it opened this morning to pick up some small hand sanitizer (which I was able to do) and ran into a woman wearing a shirt with his company logo, so I said hello. She is in the legal department.
You all are making me afraid to grocery shop today…
My guess is if you shop today you will see what we often see in times of crises: some of the best that humanity has to offer and some of the worst.
My entire family is out working retail right now - two at Walmart and one at a supermarket.
I haven’t heard from them. Unusual
I will report back what they experienced.
I heard from a friend she could not find meat or fresh produce in her local shop rite, wegmans and the line for Costco is being police controlled -
central Jersey
Ugh. I went grocery shopping a few days ago. I’m torn between being grateful that I shopped already and regretting not getting any half-and-half.
It defeats the purpose if you’re stuck in line breathing in someone else’s air! OK, espresso it is…
