Coronavirus: What are You doing ( if anything) to prepare/ What are you personally observing?

Seeing high schoolers goofing off and all over each other… This is going to spread…

Well getting a chocolate shake at my favorite place. If I am going down… I will enjoy it ?.

Mine is going. She also still attends her dual credit college courses. She will wash her hands after the test and I will have her use hand sanitizer once back in the car.

I sort of want to ask who IS still going into work! :frowning:

I am sort of stunned. I work for a university/medical school and while we are getting daily (multiple) emails about students, , med students, and resident learning changes or accommodations, we are getting very little directives on staff. The students are being asked to leave campus, medical students will be learning virtually and med students and residents have some precautions set up for their clinicals. So not that there isn’t any work to do - I have plenty - I can’t believe they aren’t addressing any staff options or changes. I happened to be off yesterday and today so haven’t been privy to any office chit chat about it.

Well, I’ve stopped going to the gym. ? something I really enjoy but not worth the risk.
I was also at the grocery today, figuring yesterday would be the bad day. It wasn’t very crowded, but - no bread if any kind, no canned veggies, no eggs, no flour, no hand soap or tp - the list goes on.
I like that our high school principal put out an update and added that people who are shopping and “maybe taking too much” should remember those in need and make some donations.

My employer (a professional organization) is not ordering us to work at home yet. But all in-person continuing education presentations are cancelled until April 30, and all meetings for organization members must be conducted remotely, whether they were scheduled to be held in our building or somewhere else.

People who work in grocery stores, hospitals, and medical offices, as well as the supply chains for all of these.

Worried by “the worst” of humanity, I sent my husband instead  He reported indeed much barer shelves than usual at two of our biggest nearby markets. Neither had ANY bread left – which shocked him. A worker told him there was plenty of bread in the morning, when they restocked everything. So maybe one should simply go very early. In any case, we’re not stocking up significantly more than usual. We do have a pantry and our favorite basics - tomatoes, beans, rice, chicken stock. If we eventually need to live on beans and rice, so be it.

My neighbor, whose hubby is a SUNY professor, had to go buy a video camera so he can conduct his classes from his home.

@abasket Mr R will be going back to work next week - he is only home because of our flu. He is a behavioral tech with autistic kids. He got an email this morning that said they’re working to transition ALL therapy sessions to in-home (their home) shifts instead of at the clinic.

With all the Michigan schools close, I foresee the number of shifts going up. I told him to open up more VIPKids (online) timeslots just in case they do decide to shut down.

Well we’ve got our first habit change due to this thing - I’m about to order my first Amazon grocery delivery. Not entirely sure how this works but we’re running low on food and the friend who would normally do a shopping trip for us is also immune compromised and I refuse to ask her go out more than she has to.

But hey, if the grocery thing works out well - we have a new shopping method!

Edit: Whoops forgot Amazon was Whole Foods. I am not about to pay those prices. To the Instacart with Aldi lol.

Near where I live, they opened a lab to anyone who wants to be tested for COVID-19. They said it was to relieve ER.

Tennis club where my kid has played some matches is screening for fevers before they allow junior kids to take part in drills/lessons. In contrast, the club where my kid is a member sent out an email today saying that their junior clinics were open. Lastly, my local ALDI store is restricting all items purchased to two of each.

@abasket If it makes you feel any better, Vanderbilt just late this afternoon told staff people to work from home. I have a friend who works on the university side (alumni relations and communications) and offices in the Loew’s hotel and was getting furious that they hadn’t heard anything before this. They were now told to stay home and work for 2 weeks.

My son saw toilet paper! He didn’t need any so he left it on the shelves.

@ucbalumnus D is still reporting to her office at a large accounting firm in downtown Seattle. I’m hopeful that after the 3/15 deadline they will have them work from home. She has underlying conditions and doesn’t have doctors there yet.

Life at H’s factory in the Midwest goes on as usual. He’s in the 60+, underlying conditions category. I work from home 85% of the time anyway, so I’m still here, toiling away except for the occasional cc break

Wish H would bring home food rather than paper goods. I like tuna lots better than eating paper plates and TP.

Our nephew works for a big national accounting firm and is normally based in LA. He’s been told to work from home, so he gets to stay in HI at least a week longer than planned (came down for funeral). His mom is thrilled!

Upcoming Farmer’s Markets in San Diego are being cancelled through March. They’re trying to find a way to let vendors provide their products in other ways, like pick up points.

@HImom - So sorry about your funeral planning.

Here in WA you wouldn’t be allowed to have the memorial/funeral, unless it was under the 250 max, and even then they are discouraging the gatherings. Your father must have been well-loved and respected in his community and I hope he gets the send off he deserves.

After my mom got the flu and never really recovered, I hope the elders who attend follow all the guidelines.

All schools are now closed in WA. Downtown Seattle looks like a ghost town. A friend is still working - her employer hasn’t figured out who can work remotely.

My sib’s school has a food bank which they are trying to keep open. We’ve contributed food and essentials, but with school out the donations will drop while usage probably goes up.

I am hoping it won’t be a large gathering (and folks will leave shortly after paying respects)—we shall see. Would have been happy with small, intimate, short remembrance.

I feel bad for folks who have planned and paid for weddings. My nephew is getting married in under a month—no idea what will happen with reception and how big it is supposed to be, but likely already paid for expensive dinner and other arrangements.

@kelsmom. Yes, it is apparently the end… Hordes of people today…

Well Illinois schools are closed till March 30 th.

My wife’s birthday is tomorrow and we are having two couples of friends over for a real, not virtual, dinner then going bowling at a local fun bowling /bar place in our area… Told my wife she might want to blow out the candle separately and not on the cake itself…

@abasket. @ucbalumnus is right as usual… Lol… I am a doc and need to go in. Only one family canceled so far but we are definitely slower plus with high deductibles and elective for sports medicine injury…

We actuality have had a virus policy since day one since we follow cdc anyway but and have lots of signs up about washing your hands and if your sick etc provided by our hospital and CDC.
