Coronavirus: What are You doing ( if anything) to prepare/ What are you personally observing?

My husband just today decided to stop going to the gym - something he does like clockwork 6 days a week before 7 am…

BTW my daughter says young people are calling this the Boomer Doomer and Boomer Remover illness because so many older people were downplaying it. “I suppose that’s one way to ensure we’ll get social security someday” she quoted a peer as saying…

I must say, I was a bit shocked…

All Denver Public libraries will be closing until further notice, starting Monday :frowning: The good news is that means I don’t have to return my stack.

That you know what!

Is there a way to save your list and hit send at midnight tonight (or have your H do it - you need your sleep!)

I have heard the Boomer Remover but decided this wasn’t the place to share it.

As for young people being annoyed with letting this spread and not doing enough… well… can’t say I blame them.

One BJs not that far away has more things in it than the other equally far away BJs store according to my husband because they are rationing things. I hope more stores will ration things so there will be enough for everyone.

@romanigypsyeyes – I secretly love that you still hang out with us Boomers (which I say, even though I consider myself Boomer-adjacent only, no matter what the official ages are!)

In other news–I have gotten a one-two punch of hearing first, that someone at the college i teach at is positive, and now two people in my town. Going into total lockdown now.

Why washing with soap is effective against the COVID-19 virus:

I wish I lived in Detroit-I’d definitely bring you some groceries. So sorry this is happening.

ETA: Actually, I don’t wish I lived in Detroit. But I wish I could help you out.

I am still tired after having the flu and so placed an order for grocery delivery today. The soonest I could get it delivered is a week. The soonest if we choose pick up is weeks away!! I don’t know how much of my order I will actually even get. If things sell out between now and a week I won’t get them.

I don’t bake anything but brownies and choccie chip cookies.

But I have crust because I make chicken pot pie a lot in winter.

Tonight, I’m making Giana’s Nona Luna’s rice and shrimp dish. It’s great even reheated so if H makes it home at some point there will be something for him to reheat quickly. I haven’t cooked a real meal since Wednesday.

Sibling and I discussed in phone call this morning:

If most deaths are boomers, that’s sad for us boomers, and probably for our kids, but could possibly (probably?) be a long term societal good.

Just one of those glass half full families, I guess.

Maybe I’m being overly optimistic, but it seems to me after the initial panic buying and people start feeling less stressed (at least with regard to groceries), buying patterns might go back to at least some semblance of normal.

We’ve been collecting food, and just adding to it, for about three weeks now–we were early adopters. Now, it’s serious. One positive at the college I work at, though I don’t think it’s anyone I know or have been around, and two in my town. Just finished adding in the necessary wine to last for a while. We both can work from home, so it’s social isolation time for us! Parteeeee !

Aww… no cherries at the Costco we went to. They implemented crowd control. Very smart. All carts get wiped out by the employees and placed in a “clean” stack. There is a single line directing people to the checkout. An employee manages the line so there is 6 feet between people. Signs are posted about keeping distance. Every other checkout is open to spread folks around. There was a ton of diapers and baby food, some Kleenex and flushable wipes, some paper napkins. Even organic chicken we like! There was an “exotic produce” roadshow: jicama, dragonfruit, and jackfruit! Of course we had to buy that. Mr. made a few jokes that jackfruit looked like a viral particle. Lol.

Everyone was patient and cheerful.

So, all this “Boomer Remover” and “Boomer Doomer” talk guilted me into checking in with my estranged mother (she’s 63). Thankfully, she’s fine and has toilet paper and food. This thread is also making me realize that we don’t have nearly enough wine.

I can mute people of all ages here, making it much better. Harder to mute people IRL

My best friend who is now working remotely while his school is closed has offered to grocery shop for us. I’m sending him one morning this week. He’s temporarily living with his parents who are also off work or working remotely and he’s happy for ANY excuse to get out of the house lol.

A tip I’ve seen floating around social media - be sure to check your local Chinese/ other Asian grocery stores for products. Many are still fully stocked because of xenophobic concerns.

For everyone home looking for projects, now is a good time to clear out and sell stuff on Poshmark or eBay, or better yet, buy stuff from people trying to make a little money. Maybe just toss the package in a garbage bag for two weeks upon arrival

While 15 boxes of tampons are probably overkill, they are on my list of things to buy for the food back at the (closed) school my sib teaches at. I’ve also gathered up the new toothbrushes & toothpaste we get from the dentist (we have sonicares).

The photo my D shared of our usual Costco shows signs saying they’re out of TP, rice, hand soap, beans, hand sanitizer, arrowhead water, paper towel, baking potatoes, Clorox, pasta, tofu, and spam.

I just donated to the local Boys & Girls Clubs organization, which has raised more than $200,000 in the past few days to help individuals and families affected by the outbreak and shutdowns.
