Corps to seek new individual service rifle

The Marine Corps is beginning its search for a next-generation individual service rifle.</p>

<p>A working group will meet this month to discuss needs and requirements for replacing the M16A4 rifle and M4 carbine, officials from Marine Corps Combat Development Command in Quantico, Va., say.</p>

<p>The Corps is saying little about the process, calling it “too early” to discuss specifics, but officials added that the service needs to explore the possibility in the long term…

<p>I have heard that they have been sending some old M14’s out to the field. Reason is, they can go through walls unlike the smaller caliber. One of my old DI’s in ROTC loved the M1 & M14 since it couuld shoot through a tree and if you ran out of ammo you could still beat someone to death. With the Matty Mattel stock on the M16, after the rounds were deflected by a leaf you were on your own after no more ammo. And at the old automatic settings they burned it up quick.</p>
