Correlation between AP PREP AND SAT PREP

Hello, as a student currently enrolled in AP English Language and AP USHistory, I’d like to ask your opinion and start a discussion.

My CR and Writing scores have floated at 670 (+/- 30) in practice tests, (I’ve just started junior year, by the way.) Im currently taking AP English Language and AP USH, both classes feature a large amount of nightly reading (45 min per) with history = narrative nonfiction and English = novels, articles, and essays, which are mostly nonfiction too (novels are Am. lit, thats all). A prequisite for both classes is complete annotation of all readings, along with English requiring marking passages of rhetorical significance/technique. My English teacher mentioned yesterday that AP CR prep along with lengthy nightly reading makes the SAT much easier and far less intimidating (<– half the battle, imo.) In regards to history - the process of gleaning important information from a passage quickly should be important, not to mention certain passages could be very similar in style and format to nonfiction historical narratives.

If you took either/both AP English Language or AP USHis did you find a correlation in the preparation for AP Tests and the SAT, and likewise did the class rigor as a whole improve your SAT capability more than the average student’s progression during the year?

Im hoping this helps my CR and writing scores. Along with an SAT Prep course (2 hrs weekly/4 months) what kind of improvement should I hope to gain in my scores? With the “baby boom” im really pushing to get into my ED descision (Duke, Dartmouth, or Penn atm) because I think that applying ED as a qualified applicant earns you a spot (colleges aiming for high yield rate with everyone applying everywhere).

Did you find specific classroom discussion of strategies types of problems, and a plethora of practice tests as indicators increased your scoring dramatically? If you could put a number on it, where would it stand?</p>

Thank you, and its my hope that even though my questions will be answered, a discussion can be started about this kind of relationship.
