Cost of Contraception

I knew I shouldn’t have gotten involved lol, I’m done!

Btw, I don’t work for a religious institution, and to those who pm’ed me, I’m not gay or anti-women.

FutureWeatherman, yes, I absolutely believe that medical marijuana should be covered by insurance.

And your many condoms don’t have potentially dangerous side effects which necessitate being under a doctor’s care while you use them. Nor are they used to treat other serious medical conditions.

I believe this works both ways. There is an Adventist hospital nearby, and even though it is, strictly speaking, against their beliefs, they do serve pepper, chocolate, caffeine, and meat in their public cafeteria and to their patients. Would you, could you, work there if they insisted on no coffee???

Well, I’m an Adventist, so I could lol. I do know that they do that, to cater to the patients who don’t share our belief, and I’m okay with that.

I wouldn’t call it “catering.” I’d call it “basic decency” and “allowing others to live by their own beliefs, even if they’re not your beliefs.”

No, but they do help to prevent serious medical conditions, and, as such, I would be all in favor of covering them as well. If one of the bcps arguments is that they save the health insurer money, then the same argument surely would apply to condoms as well, eh?

Then where do you draw the line? Why is providing coffee OK but BCPs not?

Excuse me? I don’t have sex. I do not have a sexual orientation. I think sex is vile and I want no part of it. I have no desire for it.

And yet, I’m on birth control (depo) for dysmenorrhea. It is the only thing that controls the debilitating pain I experience every month without it. I have no other option. Trust me. I have tried for the past 16 years trying to find another solution. There is nothing else that controls that pain and allows me to still function. Unless, of course, you want to count the federally controlled narcotics that take the edge off, but still leave me complete incapacitated for the day. There’s nothing like having prescriptions for such heavy pain medications before you’re even a teenager while they try to find something else that will work for you.

Based on your profile information, you’re 17 and male. You are neither a woman nor a doctor. You are just a high school student who is repeating information you have heard without verifying the facts. Please do a little more research and understand that what you have been fed about birth control is wrong. Because of people like you who believe the false statement you just made, there are girls out there who are bullied, harassed, and called horrific names just because they are taking a medication to deal with medical problems unrelated to sex.

That’s what I meant, my vocabulary failed me.

Maher didn’t use the “c” word on his program, but in a comedy club. That doesn’t make it OK, but it wasn’t on the air for millions to hear. Also, the difference between the two women is that the one Maher insulted was a powerful public figure, and the other wasn’t. But so what if Maher did something bad? As I said before, what is this, kindergarten?

I am done! Getting alot of hate mail, with people calling me names, uncalled for. I believe I did say that it’s unneeded to call people names to get a point across. Because of this, I’m leaving this convo. Peace to All!!!

FutureWeatherman, to restate romani’s question, why does the standard of “basic decency” apply to coffee but not to contraception?

ETA – I’m sorry you’re being called names and I hope you’ll come back.

So maybe we can set it up where only married women can get birth control? Cause they are the only ones that should be having sex, but then some think se is just for making babies, and then there are some who think only those that can Make babies in a couple should get married. Then there are those of us who don’t believers in the bible, and think sex is just fine married or not and don’t want some people telling me when and how my daughters and I can have sex because they read it in some old book. Maybe we shouldn’t fix broken arms for those that hurt them skateboarding or twist a knew because they are fat. Insurance covers a lot of things I don’t agree with but I would never deny coverage. Should I have to help pay for the moron who walked into traffic while they were on their cell phone? If we had real insurance in this country, this would be a non issue, but we have a really messed up system. And when people want to use some legends to decide my medical needs insurance needs and govern my vagina, that’s really scary.

Hey, don’t PM people with insults and name-calling. Post them here for all to share.

FutureWeatherman: Then report those people. I haven’t seen anyone calling you names in this thread (but I might have missed something). If you’re getting private messages that are insulting then report them for violating forum rules.

Also ifyou aren’t having sex because of your religion and what you think the bible teaches, is that self control or fear? Are you abstaining because it’s moral or because one doesn’t want to get punished? If something else is telling you how to act, then it’s not really self control. Just an aside.

Hunt,
Are you saying it would be acceptable to call the US President, if female, and the Queen of England a slut, a “c”, or a dumb twat because they are powerful figures?

futureweatherman - you can block private messages if you want. It’s wrong for people to abuse you that way and cowardly too. I’m sorry.

FutureWetherman: So sorry you are receiving hate mail. It is a very sad fact that those most loudly proclaiming the need for diversity and understanding, for ‘feeling the pain of others’ for taking care of the --name your favorite victim class - are often those who grant themselves permission to shout down anyone or anything with a different political/social or moral opinion. Of course, this is said with a high and mighty tone from a self constructed podium of open mindedness and inclusion.

Nah, it still takes self-control to follow your moral beliefs when other forces, including your own biological drives, are pushing you in another direction. My doctor put me on a diet–but it sure takes self-control to stay on it.
