Cost of living in Germany?

DD is starting to look at summer internships, she has identified 3 that she wants to apply for. One is in Germany and does not include travel expenses but pays about 650 euros a month (adjusted for cost of living depending on the city). DD is very good in German but not totally fluent. Is 650 euros a month enough to cover the cost of living in Germany? She would happily room with a family that wants extra English or music tutoring for their children if that was an option.

Air bnb is very popular in Germany so she might check listings and inquire about reduced rates for a longer term rental. Some cities, such as Berlin, have cracked down on short term rentals and lodging is very expensive. Which part of Germany is she considering?

thanks @momsquad I would never have thought of Air BNB! the program she is applying to seems to be all over Germany and she can pick 3 preferred locations but if she is accepted into their program there’s no guarantee where she’ll end up.

My S did study abroad in Germany for a semester. While all his classes were in German, he quickly found that most people spoke pretty good English. I don’t know what the cost of living was like, sorry. His housing in the dorm was included. He did buy groceries/food on his own but I don’t think they were outrageously expensive. It may depend on where in Germany she’s located. He was in Freiburg.
