okay ive searched all over the cornell IT website and can’t find out much Red Rover is per month. i read the wired network fee is like 20/month, do these charges apply to Red Rover as well?

I thought RedRover was free until you go over 20 gb of usage per month? Or am I wrong…

i had no idea that you had to pay for red rover.
how much is 20gb?
b/c if we have to pay, then i’d better watch my usage as one who’s
constantly on line w/ a mac or a phone/itouch :/

red rover should be free…its just if you download more than a certain amount, maybe 20gb, you pay for that much

Don’t worry about it at all. I’ve never heard of anyone paying anything, but if you go over the limit then it’s a fraction of a cent per MB or so. Plus, you can check NUBB in the middle of the month to see where you’re at.

As others have said, there is NO fee for RedRover AND ResNet as long as it’s still under the limit. I guess now they have raised the limit to 20 GB. So, that means, whenever you access internet using your own laptop/phone registered with Cornell, you would use a fraction of the 20 GB budget. If you go over the limit, they would charge you. However, the cost isn’t a lot. Check: http://www.cit.cornell.edu/services/nubb/fees.cfm

The fee that you mentioned only applies for unbundled wired network. Check: [CIT: Bundled and Unbundled Locations](http://www.cit.cornell.edu/services/resnet/bundled.cfm)

and to check how much you have used, check: http://nubb.cornell.edu/

wow awesome, last year it the limit was a measly 13 gig’s i think…they amped it up to 20 gigs :-D

Wasn’t Last Year 15 GB?

@playhacker - yes

Unless you are on the top extreme of internet usage, you will find it difficult to go over the limit. If you do, the rate is $.0015/MB, which is about $1.54 per gigabyte over 20 gigabytes.

I managed to go over the 15GB limit once last year downloading Linux distros, but with 5 more gigs this year, very unlikely to do so.

NOTE: Wired access is also free in the residence halls.

When you say free, do you mean it costs no money, or it doesn’t count towards your limit. The first is true, the latter is false.

What do you mean wired access is free in residence hall?
Are you saying that if I use ethernet to go online, there’d be no bandwidth cap meaning I won’t pay for any usage over 20GB? Cause I don’t think that’s how it works.

To clear everything up, as long as you use any gadgets that are not Cornell’s to get online, then you are using the 20 GB cap. UNLESS you don’t register your devices + use RedRover for guests.
