It’s an AmEx business card. The business is… Me. It used to have more great deals, but now the 5% seem limited to cellphone bills, Hertz rentals, Hilton hotels (I think-- gotta double check) and a few others
Amex must love giving cash back for cell phone bills…I took advantage of a similar offer on the Costco Amex and right now I’m getting 10% back (up to $200) on my bill with my new Amex. Hopefully, they offer that again when my current offer runs out.
I auto pay all the bills that will let me to my credit card so I get money back. (My utilities only allow auto pay with checking accounts–bummer). Then I pay credit cards on their site (withdrawing from my credit union).
Chase Ink business cards also give 5% UR points back for Cell, phone, Internet and business supply stores, I believe.
Ok-- correction: The 5% back applies to office supply stores, wireless telephone providers, FedEx hp, Hertz, Barnes&Noble, and 1800flowers. 3% back on gas and 1% on everything else. And it gets applied to the bill as a credit the following month. It’s called AmEx Open Simply cash Business Cr Card.
It used to have a lot more (including Delta tickets) at 5% back. So sorry to see that go!
@ClaremontMom - I don’t recall that good a deal on the now defunct Cotco AmEx!
@jym626 - It was a special limited time offer that you find on your account. If you log on to your account and scroll to the bottom there are “special offers” to “add to your card”. The other day I got $35 dollars back just for booking a Doubletree hotel with my Amex card (which, since it was only 1 night was about a 15% rebate!)
I have an AmEx Surpass card that gives automatic gold status at Hilton. It gave us 2 free hot buffet breakfasts every day (worth $20 apiece) and kept H very happy! Also received 100,000 Hilton points for spending $3k in 90 days!
Awesome! Good deal, jym. I will need to become a “business” to get that sweet deal! Who knows…
I pay every figgin’ bill with my Costco cashback card, not just cell phone… Home and car insurance, phone, Internet, etc.
Oh I always play those quarterly percentage things-- but musta missed 10% back!
Phew. I ordered a bunch of items during Nordy’s designer clearance. Because I was in a hurry, I automatically used the Amex without even thinking that I would need to return 2 out of each 3 items (I sometimes buy 2-3 sizes to make sure I get the one which fits). Surely enough, the order came in after the switch! I would have been stuck with a $1,000 Nordstrom giftcard, but I whined a bit about how Costco did it to me, and the helpful SA put the return on my Costco Visa! Thank you, Nordstrom!
Here is what I noticed while I was monitoring my Visa account to make sure the return posted correctly. I returned the stuff on the 1st, but the return only posted on the 6th! Even with the holiday in the mix, it took Visa 3 business days to process it. Amex usually posted returns the next day, rain or shine, weekend or holiday. I will keep an eye on it to see if this is a pattern or not.
Maybe because it was a large amount and initially purchased on a different card? Or maybe it was on the vendors side that caused the slowdown?
Nope, I do not think so. A return is just like payment, it is not linked to a particular putchase on the cc end. Plus, I often returned twice as much of stuff to Nordstrom, and Amex always posted it within 24 hours. A $50 return to Visa also took 3 days to post.
Many co’s have the 3 business days transaction window. When I move cash from Etrade to my bank account, the money disappears into a black hole for 3 days. I guess with the Visa will be taking their sweet time. I am sure it is buried in their massive fine print somewhere… Just wanted to give heads up to folks here.
I think the banks have some weird policy about this when transferring from one to the other (assuming it wasn’t a wire transfer with guaranteed immediate posting).
I’ve seen some credits take several days to post, but haven’t paid attention to which cr card company took low long.
I did recently accidentally put a car rental on one AmeEx when I meant to put it on a different AmEx. Called Amex- they said they would courtesy do it over the phone for me. That was a week ago. Still haven’t seen the change (the charge is still on the original card). Its not a big deal, but I was preferring to to be on the other card.
I don’t return things on a regular basis, but don’t they usually say something about “It may take a few days for your credit company to post this” ?
Yes the merchants alway do, “depending on your credit card policy”, but with Amex it always took 24 hours or so. Just giving a heads up to folks who were also used to such fast posting of returns and who might worry that there was something wrong with the return.
I’m like jym: I pay almost all my bills through my bank as I like to control when, etc and I like just going to one place to take care of everything. I’ve set just about all my bills to be due around the 12th of each month so I just know I need to go online somewhere around the 1st of the month to make sure everything gets scheduled. Not that interest rates are anything to be excited about but I set everything to pay around the 10th so that I have my $$ as long as possible. Also, if I want anything auto paid, it has to be set up through my bank as an ebill (not sure that’s the right terminology).
I do have two utilities on my credit card because paying by cc is permitted and I appreciate the rewards I earn and, when I initially set up the auto pay, there was some reward/cash incentive.
I get the desire to go one place to take care of everything, but don’t you have to go to all the other websites anyways to know what you need to pay?
Personally I like everything autopay and charged to my CC (if possible) to get points and so I don’t have to worry about what is in my bank account at a given time. Then I just pay off my CC. So in a way I’m consolidating too!
I finally memorized my new Visa number.
We have one rewards credit card that we only use for autopays-phone, cable, gas and electric, gym membership, etc. We had several cards replaced for security breaches and it was a real pain to keep contacting the autopays. That card now never leaves the house or is used online and all the autopays are in one place.
